Hi, I am a Newbie to this Forum from Indianapolis (since 7 yrs now, actually from Germany, Stuttgart Area....).

I am looking to buy another car for my wife and stumbled over a Porsche Boxster on CL. After digging around on the Internet like CL, Autotrader...etc.... i started really liking this car.

I have found one here at a small Dealership and we took it out for s test drive today, here are the specs:

2001 Porsche Boxster "Basic" (not "S"),
49k miles,
Silver,
Black Interior,
Tip shift (Automatic)
great condition,
when apply pressure to the brake pedal i can feel a little shake,
Dealer asked 12990, i talked him down to 11.5k (mentioning the IMS issue).

The plan is that we get the car and replace the IMS myself (i would spend 1k to gly over my friend from Germany who works as Mercedes service engineer and is absolutely talented with cars and a friend of his is working as a Porsche Service technician).

SO now to my question:

Is this a good deal ?
Anything i have to pay close attention to at the second inspection ?

Any comment / input is welcome.

Price is reasonable, but keep in mind you might have trouble selling a tip later down the road.

The TIP is my choice...manual needs the clutch replaced around 60-75k miles. Cost around $3500. Service the TIP right away. You might want to get Wayne's 101 Boxster Tips from Pelican. If you have the tools and a little mechanical savvy, most of the maintenance you can DIY.

This can be a warped disk, or worn out suspension parts like control arms or so, or...
Although not serious it ca set you back a couple of hundred bucks easily, especially if you have to pay for labor.

I'm with you.. tip is the best!!! Not sure if I'll ever go back to the manual shifting cars, clutch changes, traffic knee pains, and all.

Got one of those with the F1 style paddles. So bloody fun. The Tip gearbox is quick enough (as fast as the clutch anyway). Driving my 986 on M mode 100% of the time.

wow! where did you get that steering wheel? Do they make them in tan?

I actually got it from Design911.co.uk

They don't currently have it in stock but they can order one for you if you are cool waiting for 10-15 days before they ship out.

RE Tan colour. You want Black-on-Tan mate. Tan-on-Tan is just a tad 'too much' Tan See pics below. Old pictures but since I've laser etched a beautiful Porsche Emblem on the airbag leather. Looks factory and very elegant.

And yes the paddles are way too FUN!!! The Tip management ECU quickly learn your driving style and shift the tip at lightning speed when pushing it a bit. Addictive.
