Engine swap

I have a 04 Boxster S that I bought with out the engine and transmission. Could I swap an engine from an 00 Boxster S to an 04 Boxster S, is a straight swap? are the engine the same?. I read the Engine Swap from another Forum, but I just want the opinion of this forum to be sure, I am not a mechanic and it is not too many Porsche mechanics around here, Rhode Island and the ones around they are very expensive. So I asked my mechanic to see if can do it, he is a general mechanic, he toll me, that he will do it, if is the same engine. Thanks in advance

The short answer is no. The variable cam timing is different between the 2000 and 2004. You could use a 2003 -2005 without any problems.

Thanks a lot, you save me a lot of trouble. I was buying a hole car just to get the engine and the owner was telling me that they were the same, that the engine changed on 05. Thanks again
