advice on a 2002 986

hello everyone!

i came across a '02 986 in Polar Silver Metallic at a car dealership today. it has a 5 speed manual gearbox and already has 96,563 miles on it. i wasn't able to view the entire car in full detail (interior, engine, underpinnings) but from the exterior of the car, it doesn't have any body misalignments, scratches or dings. the soft top is in great condition too and it seems like the car was well taken care of by the previous owner. they are selling it at $14,995 and the Kelly Blue Book suggested retail value is at $13,500.

i don't know much about Porsches (mechanically) and if ever, this will be my first Porsche. i always wanted one after a friend gave me a ride in his 987.

since i will be taking a 2nd look of the car in the next coming days, i would like to know what should i look and watch out for to make sure that it will be a good purchase. also, if ever i do buy it, what will be the maintenance procedures needed for its current mileage?

thank you in advance for your help!

This really is a buyers market for Boxsters. So many for sale you can just choose year, color, options and find any number of them to buy.

If the one you are looking at is a Base and not a S, the price seems high, at least from where I live. Keep in mind dealers are always higher than private sale.

Don't fall in love with the first one you look at.

I agree with Kurt, price seems a little high unless it's at a Porsche dealership. You might want to research "IMSB issues" before you pull the trigger.

Hello,
Great, you're one of those asking first before buying... not some of those buy first , then ask questions later.. which is too late!
Well, you are in the right place first of all... and reading through the comments are right on.. There's plenty of reading materials/research columns etc.. one of them that you should look at is here Boxster Buyer's Tips
There's plenty of them out there, just be patient.
Good Luck on your search!
