saying hi, no boxster yet
 

Just wanted to check in and say hi. While I don't have a Boxster yet, I am in the Porsche family and mid engined at that. I currently own a 1970 914 with a 2liter 4 in it. The 914 has been a blast, but as it is a 40 year old car, it spends more time on the jack stands than on the road.
I really want a car that I can maintain and drive more than I work on!

Anyway I will be around, lurking... If you know of a 550 spyder edition in the Pacific Northwest, let me know! :cheers:

Welcome to the forum! Can't wait to see pix of your new-to-you Boxster.

BTW, my boxster was on jack stands for the first two years of ownership, by the way. I'm sure you're smarter than me with all your Porsche repair experience and will get a much better specimen!

Don't under estimate your 914.
I currently own a 2000 Boxster S and previously owned an '85 928 and three 914s and I feel compelled to tell you that my 74 914 was by far the most fun to drive and best Porsche I have ever owned. I haven't had a 911 yet though but I don't think I would enjoy driving it as much as I did the 914. It wasn't very fast off the line but it was a blast around the turns. Plus it was fun to work on and cheap to run.

The 914 is a great car, this one is my 5th. I really am wanting a modern car and less of a project.

Don't limit your search to just the pacific nw. Most dealers arrived more than happy to ship it to you regardless os location. I recently purchased an 04 Spyder from a private dealer in CA that should arrive any day. They are shipping to me at no extra cost.

Listen, just don't get rid of the 914. :D You'll still appreciate it after you get the Boxster. Both are good cars, but also quite different. I've got a '72 914 also with a 2.0L and side shift. I LOVE the character of this car and use it as my daily driver. Yes, I have to work on it more, but, as JTP noted, they're much easier to work on and parts are cheaper. Try to get a front wheel bearing on the Boxster for $10 or shocks for $50!!! :p

I comparison to my 914 I have a 2000 Boxster S. With a nice coilover suspension and other bits I actually have the Box turning better than the 914. So you can still have a lot of fun in a Boxster. It's also nice to have something with amazing brakes, air conditioning, easy starting, leather interior, and much more comfort in general. Yes, I don't work on the Boxster nearly as much, but that's also less fun in some ways. But I'm the kind that almost enjoys wrenching on them more than driving them!

As you're a car guy and Porsche lover do yourself a favor though and get an "S" model. The base Boxster is great, but you will appreciate some of the upgrades the S will get you and the difference in price in the used market is not that substantial.

The TT Coupe project started not very promising, mainly because it was said to share VW Golf IV's platform, which has been notorious in handling. Partly because it was said to use Volkwagen's part-time Syncro 4WD system.The PDK still has lousy low-speed drivability – and you can call us hopeless romantics, but when it's not about chalking up lap times, we still love to row our own gears.
