Potential Boxster Owner

Hi All:

Well I may be coming over from the dark side. I've been driving German cars for years but my primary toy is a Corvette.

We need something for my wife to drive (the kids are hogging the other cars) and a friend is selling his 2000 Boxster with 23K miles and I think I can get it for around $12,500. IMO this may be a deal that is too good to pass up on a really fun and beautiful car. We've never had a Porsche and never a convertible of any sort.

Any advice is appreciated. Anything to look for in particular? My mechanic says there was some issue with castings and cracked blocks?

Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom. If we get the car then I will enjoy perusing the threads here.

Welcome!

Mike Focke's advice is on the money.

Also read Randall Neighbor's trials and tribulations here on this forum. "How to want to buy and Boxster bad, and get it that way."

Thanks very much guys! The link was helpful.

I drove the car today. It was very nice with absolutely no issues that I could discern. (Could use another 100hp but I shouldn't complain as I am not paying for a new "S"). I'll bring it home for my wife to drive and if she likes it I'll put it on the lift and have a look underneath for any problems, damage, leaks, etc.

Buy a warranty and get a quality PPI before buying.

Good luck.
