If you have the 220, the serial is on a sticker on the back of the radio

http://mike.focke.googlepages.com/radiocodes for more info.

Isn't that a little counter-productive ? I thought the purpose of the radio code is so if your radio is stolen the thief cannot get it to operate ?

If the sticker is on the back of the radio, doesn't that defeat the purpose ?

It's worth a call to your nearest dealer, they provided the radio code for me (I mean who really would steal and then want to reactivate a CDR220 from a 99?! ).
Turn on the radio and hold down the "tp" button for 5 seconds then you should see "Becker" turn the tuner knob and you should see a serial number. This is the number you need in order to retrieve the radio code from the dealer.

Any idea how long you have to wait for the WAIT error to go away to try a new code? I tried some codes 2hrs ago and the car still says WAIT. thanks

You'll need to turn the ignition switch to the "acc" position. Then turn on your radio. "WAIT" will appear. Duration will depend on how many attempts were made with an incorrect code. Basically it'll count down as a timer, 5 minutes for each incorrect code with a max time of 60min.
After a max time of 60min, the radio will read "code", in which time you'll enter a 4 digit (0-9) numerical code using the preset buttons.
