Just sold Boxster! What's next early 996 or new Cayenne V6???

my family wants more cargo, then Boxster has to leave. I just want some advices from pcar owners. With same budget I can go with 3.4L 996 or new Cayenne V6. Which one should I select?

Just exactly how much cargo do you need to carry?

Charlie C 04-21-2004 02:03 PM

How about keeping the Boxster and getting a used "cargo" vehicle? With the exception of the Cayenne's (which I've never driven), most cargo vehicles will NOT be fun to drive. :ah:

That looks a Fez Mobile. I thought that I didn't have to make those decisions anymore! I have already been lectured by my expecting daughter that my grandchild( #1) will not ride in the Boxster! She says I need the 911 with a back seat or SUV. There might be a silver lining in that cloud after all.

Ad Sach 04-22-2004 02:41 AM

How about a 944 track car? Under $15,000 - more room than a 911. Spec racing with NASA (especially socal and arizona). Cheap enough to keep the Boxster.

If you LIKE tha 911 - consider it. If you don't like your daughter- consider that also.

Off the subject.

What a bad comment, "If you don't like your daughter", I am very close to my daughter and imagine most real fathers are quite close to there daughters.

If a vehicle comes before your family, then there seems to be something amiss.

I am very disturbed that people make comments like this; maybe you should take your daughter for a ride and bond, maybe then a comment like that would not come to mind. I love to drive with my daughter and watch her smile.

Sorry to be so mushy, but as I said, daughters are very special people, no matter what... they will always understand you when your Boxster won't or your wife won't get why you love your Boxster so much...

Off of my soap box...

Ad Sach 04-22-2004 02:18 PM

sorry mrmickey - forgot the smiley.

My Sophmore daughter in college calls me on the phone 4-8 times a week.

The point I was not quite making is that some 'new mothers' and expectant mothers get to be a bit over the top - this is not the same way they will be after a few months with baby. So my first thought was 'get a new daughter - or wait few month'. Considering your response, I should have left the whole daughter comment out.

The snide part was included because sometimes some women think it is their role to tell men what to do. So here after a few posts, the rest of the story comes out - You are considering ditching the Boxster because a woman close to you has told you the Boxster is not right for you. Yes, in the real world we all make choices.

I am of the opinion that 'family comes first', except when they actually tell you 'family comes first' - at that point I suspect it is a lot more about manipulation and control than about love and respect.

Good luck with the decision - whomever makes it.

I guess I am lucky I love both.

I enjoyed the comment but my daughters remark was said with a smile in her face. I took it like Dracula being promoted to head the Blood Dept of NYC. I think I could deal with the "911 suffering"

Ad Sach 04-23-2004 02:32 PM

I figured anyone who would call my car a "Fez Mobile" could probably take the joke.

Pilot2519j 04-23-2004 05:35 PM

No offense taken. I have a wry sense of humor. My daughter has called me several times a day as long as I can remember. Now that she is married she still calls me the same way.

I have driven the pepper-wagon for about 250 miles; including highway and around town. You will be surprised, it is not a truck or an SUV (traditional). It is a p-car with a bit of height and capacity. Actually, quite a "wow." Check it out....

tqtran 08-31-2004 07:23 AM

I wouldn't say it has quite the "wow" factor as you claim.
I have driven/beat down a Cayenne Turbo, and it doesn't give you the feeling a 911 for 986 would. Its fast, I give it that, but it doesn't feel super fast when you have it floored. Personally, I think it rides like a BMW X5.

PeterJoyce 08-31-2004 05:09 PM

What about an Audi S4 or my favorite a used Maserati Coupe GT.

PeterJoyce 08-31-2004 05:10 PM

New M3 or to get a little more life out of your Boxster or wait about 8 months for the new M2 (300HP 6-7 Speed $32000-$36000)

porsche986 10-02-2004 06:15 AM

porsche

although i love my boxster to bits its time i had a change... i looked at the new M3 and its looks great but i aint a fan of BMW and although i own an M3 cab also i dont really like it.

I have decided between the ferrair 355 spider or the porsche 996. After taking all the facts into account and the ferrari is a great car... there are many replicas so i decided to get the 996..

so i still want another summer out of my boxster then in june 04 i will get a porsche 996 maybe a turbo if i can sell my M3 and boxster and find a little more funds..

also although my M3 is 350 bhp it still doesnt take my boxster.. i know the bmw is very heavy so maybe thats why..

Driving an 02 M3 cab vs 02 M3 sedan was like night and day. The M3 sedan is awesome (though lacks the porsche steering feedback and handling) . The M3 Cab is in Mustang Cobra Cab territory. IMO - Those extra 500+ lbs really destroy the M3 Cab.

I've never driven a modern Ferrari, but I can't imagine owning a car that I couldn't trust to get me home if I took a trip 2 states away.

The 993/996 turbos are hard to beat if you are addicted to acceleration.

The Viper is a awesome convertible, but I wouldn't recommend one unless you are comfortable doing 100MPH 4-wheel drifts and power slides - those beasts are full of gut wrenching power but very hard to control.

Aston Martin. 'Nuff said.

Lux,

Not enough information. Outside of a James Bond movie in Iceland, what would you do with one of those?

Maybe I just don't get it - I always choose the beautiful smart talented women over the ones that just look good.
