Drove the Cayenne yesterday!
Yesterday was the official launch of the Cayenne at my local Porsche dealer. I showed up early to get a look at the four Cayennes on the lot and take a test drive. Test drive was in the Cayenne S, not the Turbo. Overall impression was very positive. One: this is a big truck/SUV! Two: interior fit and finish is very good, much better than the Boxster or even the Carrera! Three: this thing really hauls! Short drive on interstate I had it up to 120 when the salesman suggested that I slow down! There was plenty of go and the handling was unlike any truck/SUV I have ever driven. I'm not in the market, but I believe they will sell well.

I think the number of Cayennes to be produced and the number of people interested in getting one is at about a 1:4 ratio. So they won't be able to make enough to satisfy the demand. I too think it will selll quite well.
As for appearance, I think the SUV from VW, the Touareg is better looking. Saw one in person in Germany a few months ago, really nice. http://homepage.mac.com/bliemel/.Pic...touaregweb.jpg |
Yeah, it ain't really a looker!
But, if it allows Porsche to make enough money to build the Carrera GT into a Le Mans winner, who cares! There ought to at least be a real race car developed with the excess cash! Besides, the track junkies can use one to haul their race cars.

Sounds like they've got a winner on their hands w/ the Cayenne. I was surprized at the size, I'd expected something bigger based on all the articles I'd read to date. This is no Hummer (aka: Garage buster). But, as you stated, impressive fit/finish. I'm concerned I might come across one of these at a Driver's Ed event on the track... I'm sure the Boxster would lose in an intertia contest!
William, Must have missed you there yesterday - I showed a bit late - but at least in time to win a case of Mobil 1 0W40 in the drawing :D . |
Sorry I missed you!
Hi Don: Yeah, I left around 2:00 pm, the newcomers meeting didn't really seem to be getting going and the Wife was on the cell phone with the "where are you now?" thing going on - I got there at 10:30 to get a place on the line to drive the Cayenne. I ended up being 3rd in line. Sorry we didn't get to meet and I could have used that case of oil. Next time.
