Cool Important Info - Why we moved to a new host

As you may now realize, we moved 986forum.com to a new hosting location yesterday.

The move itself involved putting the board on entirely new upgraded
software, freshening the appearance, and re-establishing most of the
important links. We are still in the process of debugging the site, but
have corrected most issues.

We made the decision to update all the software at this time because the
new board software is more secure and is scalable as the participation in
986forum grows. Screens will load more quickly, and we have better
administrative controls, thereby permitting more moderator access.

Understanding that the forum move would take some time, we made the choice
of keeping the old site running rather than shutting down for a few days.
This risked the loss of some posts for the days during which the site
database was being transferred to the new format. Since the upgrade process
required 2 sequential version upgrades, it will not be possible to
re-incorporate any posts placed during the period Jan 12 to Jan 16.

You can expect 986forum to be a continually evolving site that will undergo
regular changes, based on your input and ideas.

We appreciate your continuing participation.

Richard Belloff and Richard Kwei (new site owners)

gotta say, the forum is alot faster and although i wasnt keen on the idea of a change i think its been worth it. Also links are now fixed that never worked in the past for example you can now login anywhere as before you had to use the main page only. Also there are alot more features.. good job brucelee and everyone else.. sorry dont know your names yet but good work

Thanks for the acknowledgement. The kudos belong to the technical wizards on our team, namely Richard Kwei, his brother Joseph Kwei and wife Chris Anderson. They are the brains of the outfit, I am the pretty face!

Thanks again!

I just wanted to point out that we have bested our "Most users ever online was XX" thing this week a couple times. That was stuck on 60 the whole time I've been coming here. Cool.

So the things that I noticed about the new board is that there seems to be a quota on the pics we can upload to the site. I haven't figured out if this is per message or if this is for the member itself.

The site looks good and I like the new software. I used to always enjoy the front of the page with the most recent posts. Maybe there are more messages being posted, but it seems that the messages are moving off of that "most recent" list fast. Any way to increase the number of most recent posts?

Just some thoughts Please don't take it as criticism. I certainly enjoy the board. Always have. Much easier to read than PPBB.

Keep up the good work!
