Love dash command. Must use Android to use BT connection then it's full function. Does not work well with apple. I keep a mini android pad at the shop just for this. Great setup, checks all the cars.

I have been using TouchScan with an Android tablet/phone and Elm327 BT. It's worked well enough for me that I haven't tried another to compare it to since I started using it.

See if this info helps: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dashcommand-obd-ii-gauge-dashboards/id321293183?mt=8

I use it on all my cars mainly for Check Eng warning light. As a bonus this provides some neat stuff like Mpg, Instant mpg, Eng vacuum, Eng temp, Hp/Tq used etc. Data that is able to read depends on your car.

Yes it can read/reset codes for Porsche too. However, I still use my Durametric to read/reset codes for the Boxster.

There are a ton of cheap bluetooth and wifi compatible OBD adapters on Ebay. anyone use these cheaper version? For example. ELM327 Wifi Obdii CAR Diagnostics Scanner FOR Apple Iphone Support ALL OBD II | eBay

But i have no idea if it would work with porsche boxster. Are there any communication protocols to look at?

I use the wifi Elm with OBD Fusion on my iphone 4 on my 2001 boxster, Works well.

VW crapped out yesterday and generic reader found no codes. Didn't want to run extension chords to where the car was parked to use the laptop, (battery was dead). iPhone is always on me and I keep the elm in the oddments box, the elm and iphone pinpointed the faulty crank sensor that hadn't thrown the code but was pending...

The ELM unit is very affordable so I have one in each car. It's so convenient since I always have my phone on me. Periodically I like to measure my mpg at various cruising speed. This comes in handy.

The way it sticks out from below the boxster dash it will get kicked off the port while your getting in or out of the car if you forget it's there. Can't be good for it or the port. Well at least mine does. Maybe others have a 90degree unit that keeps up high.

Not a problem on my VW as the port is oriented on another angle. Still don't leave it plugged in though.

The problem with these is they are so small you forget about them. I had to buy several because I kept losing them. Then 3 months later my friend or customer would come back for something else and... wow there is my reader!

I think I will have to put a leash or a ribbon on it.

There is even a reminder on the app to remind you to remove it if your want the reminder there.

I purchased one of these - Vgate OBD Bluetooth ELM scanner

http://www.amazon.com/Vgate-Bluetooth-Scanner-TORQUE-ANDROID/dp/B00AAOOQJC

I have tried it with 4 different android apps but cannot get it to connect. The power light comes on but it will not get passed that. I tried it with my phone and a tablet but no luck.

I tried the same unit in a Toyota Sienna with no luck. I tried it in my 2010 Dodge Avenger and it worked.

Is it possible there is some connection / protocol difference in the Porsche (I have a 2004 Boxster S) that is preventing this from working?
