If cruising on the freeway, I'll go to sixth.

Keep the revs high or risk IMS failure - its the law! low revs puts a great strain on the bearing! Who cares about MPG, that's not why you bought the car

VarioCam changeover occurs between 2200-2500 RPM so you don't want to cruise in that range for fear of constantly readjusting cam timing, causing increased wear to the cam chain wear pads.

I try and keep my revs at 3000 or better, all the time.

+1 to Joe B. I do my bets to cruise around 3K, the Boxster just seems happiest there.

This is good to know.
Btw: at 3000 rpm how many mph are you?
I have a 2008 s design edition and I,m at 75 mph at 3000 rpm.
I drove my son in-laws car 2003 s and at 3000 rpm 80 mph.
Both driven on 6th gear.

I drive to and from LA from the Bay Area a lot. Yes I have to pay attention to my speed.

My speedo is off by ~4mph at that speed (it reads optimistically). So, if it says 65, your probably really going 61 or 62.

Mine too. I read somewhere that all the boxster speedometers were off by about 10% and it is by design. I found it while doing some research to see if the speedometer could be calibrated and/or changed.
