Cayman S exhaust on a Boxster

Can anyone confirm if an '07 Cayman S exhaust will fit on an '00 2.7 Boxster?

The 987and 986 use the same head and bolt pattern but the exhausts are designed differently to overcome the staggered position of the heads. On the 986 they chose the make the headers unequal and the connecting pipes to the rear silencer lengths the same. On the 987 they routed the exhaust differently and made the headers equal length and the rear muffler connecting pipes different lengths to compensate. Though I've not seen it tried I would guess a complete system could be fitted from a 987 onto a 986 but I would have to question the benefits ?

Flanges are different, exhaust ports are different, the 987 Cayman exhaust routes to the outside of the sub chassis and the catback is configured very differently from the 986 both in terms of "plumbing" and contact points . Mechanically speaking, even if it could be made to work , extensive fabrication would be necessary in order to make it fit . As Berty said , why ?

The sales info suggests the 987 exhaust is lighter than that of the 986 and its redesigned to overcome the infamous heat shield rattle. In terms of performance, only the 3.2S 987 manifold is actually an upgrade over the standard 986 item , the design of the 2.7 and 3.4 manifold (header) offers no improvement. It is the same design and the part is common to both 2.7 and 3.4 engines on the 987. The 987 has two sets of catalysts however the 986 only requires one , so the first thing to do would be decat the manifolds and free up a bit more power. If you decat the 3.2 S manifolds you would get a good performance gain and a deeper exhaust note and still comply with emissions requirements for a 986. Its not as crazy an idea as it first sounds but only really viable if the complete system can be obtained at a giveaway cost , otherwise it would be better to fit an aftermarket exhaust.

I would be hard pressed to believe that a set of 3.4 987 headers would interface properly on a 2.7 M96 engine .

Only 97-99 models have one pair of cats. 2000-2004 models have 2 pairs of cats (total of 4).

Might as well go aftermarket with the amount of work involved.

You can't decat the headers in the USA and have the vehicle remain OBD II compliant .
