Boxster LSD??

Do boxter or boxster S's come with LSDs or is there an option for one? my miata has one and with the recent patch of snow its been a lifesaver. im probably not going to drive the boxster int he snow but in heavy rain situations id be more comfortable having one.

Sorry Skippy, the LSD is reserved for more expensive models, why? I guess so the Box and Cayman don't eat too much 911 pie. It's total nonsense that it doesn't when you consider the fact that the lowly 944 I owned had it. Cheer up though, if all you want it for is stability, you can order up the PASM (Porsche stability management) and get what you are looking for.

You can purchase torque biasing differentials like what's in your miata from guard transmissions or quaife. Guard also sells clutch lsds. 2009 is the first year that a mechanical limited slip is offered in the Cayman, I'm not sure about the Boxster.

Yes, LSD will be available on the 2009 Cayman and Boxster, but initially only with PDK and not a manual tranny. That is expected to change mid-year, but for now LSD with PDK only. As for a retrofit on a 986 and 987, I have seen threads regarding those that have added it, but someone that has actually had it done should comment, as I am not familiar with it.

I'm planning to do a Quaife in my S whenever the gearbox comes out to be freshened, which likely won't be until (if) I swap my motor out for a 3.8.

Isn't the 5 spd sourced from VW? Is there an alternate source for parts and shouldn't the rebuilding be relatively straight forward?

Jake Raby over at flat 6 innovations (see top of the page) sells LSD kits for 986/987.

Still don't understand why it's not available for 2000-2004 986 non-S models.
