Interest: Boxster Oil Change "Clinic"
 

I do my own oil changes/end of season prep on my Boxster, and will be doing this year's service within the next month or so...

If anyone has considered doing their own oil change and would be interested in seeing what is involved, or sharing tips on end of season maintenance, I'd be willing to arrange a time for folks to stop by. I don't have a lift, but do have a creeper for those who wish to see the work details under the car.

I don't know the exact date yet (so long as the weather stays good, I'm still driving it), but would like to gauge interest. Please respond here if interested and we can set something up for my house NW of Boston.

I would be interested in seeing how easy or difficult it is to do.

Since I am a relatively new Boxster owner and have not had any experience in the maintenance area, a demo would be great.

Besides, it may help me understand why the cost of an oil change is so high.

After you see it done, you'll still be wondering why it costs so much - except for the cost of the oil itself (~$50/change).

Other than the oil (which you can get for a good price at Wal-Mart, AutoPalace, etc.), there is little cost for the parts - even at a dealership. The filter and seal ran me under $20 at Pass & Weisz in Burlington. As a result, I think a group buy would be more a complication than a benefit.

If we have just a couple of cars, we may be able to do the actual work on each at the "Clinic". More than that and we may run out of space and time... my garage facilities are limited ;) .

Even if we can't do the actual work on all of them, you'll have a good idea of what you'll otherwise be doing or getting done - and if nothing else, you'll have a chance to see what the underside of your favorite car looks like up close.

Season, schmeason.....we don't have to deal with that out here in California.

OK, based upon weather outlook I'm planning to do my oil change (including clinic) this Saturday afternoon, Nov. 15th.

Howie and Kevin, please confirm if you'll be stopping by and I will supply directions to my house and a reference list of supplies/tools for the job.

We get together about every 2 weeks to work on cars. In San Jose where out winter is just rain. Jeff
