Post Local Area Mini-Ride Poll

OK, seems there is some general interest in the mini-ride concept - time to get more specific about items of interest and some possible dates. Please reply to the poll...

Please email me or post here if you plan to join us. Hope you can!

So Don,

What's the verdict with the car? Did all (or most) of the scuff come out?

By the way thanks a lot for getting us together this past Saturday! Lots of nice twisties, great weather and some good ice cream to round it out.

I have a few decent pictures and will post them up when I get a minute.

Well, P21S Paintwork Cleanser significantly decreased the appearance of the scratch/scuff and the Zaino "scratch and swirl mark" finish diminished it some more, but it appears that something more aggressive like the 3M scratch remover product will be required.

Glad you enjoyed the ride, looking forward to our next event!

Hi Don,

Sounds like you are in very good shape if so much has been done so far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that 3M scratch remover will take the rest of it out!

Finally tried the 3M finish restorer (I believe this is their least aggressive level - "swirl marks and light oxidation") product yesterday. I love this stuff!!!!!!!!!! Way better than the Meguiar's "Scratch-X" (read this "extra scratches") product IMHO.

The 3M totally removed the scratch reported above, plus several other more minor ones. The major scratch took some time (went slow so I wouldn't burn though the clear coat) but with patience and tired hands it totally disappeared. Surface looks like glass in this area (do I have to do the whole car now?). Small scuffs and scratches took just a few minutes.

I had a really nasty set of scratches on my daily driver Subaru which cleared up really well too.

Now with just another bottle and a Porter Cable machine...

I'm really glad that worked out for you, Don!

That product was the lucky first try for me; I've tried others but that all seriously mark up the paint surrounding the repair area. I honestly don't understand how that can make so tough and yet so gentle at the same time.

It looks unlikely that we will be able to make the Polo outing today. Have a great time!
