AutoFanatics Run

Hi Guys,

Wake up, winters over. Time for the first run!

I just got off the phone with Mark Burns of Autofanatics, and he is very happy to host us for another warehouse visit. For those of you who weren't with us last year, Autofantatics is a dot com as well as a retail operation in Essex, MA with an amazing assortment of detailing supplies and literally thousands of car models. We will get a club discount and a some goodies. And of course, we will be having lunch afterward at Woodman's, the "home of the fried clam."

So, could you vote for a date if you're interested? No need to get names or firm commitments from people for this run, just want to gauge the best day and level of interest.

Cheers,
Charlie

Hi,

I'm new to the GBBG. Just bought a Boxster in January and would love to check out Autofanatics. Sounds like a fun trip so you can count me in. My schedule is pretty wide open, so any upcoming weekend works for me. Thanks!

CharlesGordon 03-28-2003 02:55 PM

Welcome, Howie! Glad you'll be able to join us.

CharlesGordon 03-31-2003 01:54 PM

Ok, looks like we're a go for April 12th. I'm going to try to get a bit more participation for this, so spread the word if you know anyone interested (waiters and non-owners are welcome to join us and benefit from the discount). I'll post full details within a couple of days, so check back here if you plan to make it.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again! :)

Need to check schedule

but I think we're in.....

CharlesGordon 04-02-2003 01:41 AM

Cool, Rey! :)

JSLeach 04-03-2003 04:37 PM

Sorry, Guys, but I can't make the 12th...

although I'd be up for the actual detailing session depending, of course, on the date that is decided.

BTW, Janet and I are setting up a rally for our local region of PCA (North Country) to take place on Sunday, May 4, if anyone is interested. The notice can be checked out at www.ncr-pca.org.

Have fun at Autopia!

John

ReyF 04-04-2003 06:16 AM

John, what dates

would work for you ? At this point the only weekend in April that's any good is probably 4/26-27 since the weekend before is Easter. Other than that we'd have to wait until after the rally so perhaps the 5/10-11 weekend.

The rally sounds interesting and Juliette and I have always wanted to do one. We may see you then!

I'm in for the 12th (me and a guest) and we also signed up for your rally, John. I was hoping to set one up to offer the GBBG this year - so I plan to have a good time with yours and get some ideas on setting one up for some point in the future. Looking forward to both events!

CharlesGordon 04-04-2003 01:35 PM

Cool, Don.

John, I'm sorry you and Janet can't make this one. Among other things, I really hope you can find another weekend to do a Maine Coast II ride this summer! Maybe we'll wait until August if the weather is best then. :) Cheers!

colinblake 04-05-2003 02:54 PM

Loosey and I are in. Lucky it wasn't today!

CharlesGordon 04-06-2003 01:09 PM

Great Colin! I look forward to seeing you and Loosey soon.

Autofanatics Run!

So, are we on come rain or snow, etc.? I'm ready. Guess we won't be doing too much detailing before Saturday.

CharlesGordon 04-08-2003 09:14 AM

You bet. Details are here: http://www.986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=331

ReyF 04-09-2003 11:47 AM

I think we're probably out on this. It looks like we'll be in between Boxsters.....

Rey & Juliette

William Harris 04-09-2003 02:23 PM

Between Boxsters?

Hey Rey: What's going on? Trading up? Gotta have the newer and better. Tell us the details.

Rockchalk 04-09-2003 05:57 PM

William -

Our lease was up and we had originally decided to keep our car as we had gotten quite attached to it. A good friend of mine at work has basically a twin of our car (color being the most important factor) but it's an S. It's a 2000 with only 13,500 miles and is in very good condition. He made us such a sweet deal offer I would be somewhat embarrassed to disclose the figure.

Here's a couple of shots of the cars...

Our old one is on the right.

Some people have all the luck!

So, do the deal and we will see you next time. Great looking cars!

CharlesGordon 04-10-2003 11:21 AM

Now that's just awesome, Rey!

I'm so glad you'll be sticking with a Zenith Blue! I totally remember you talking about that car last year when your friend showed up at the detailing session with it. How's the extra 50 horsepower treating you? :D

jtai21 04-10-2003 01:56 PM

The S is not ours yet...
We just got back from turning in our baby back to Clair :(

I'm a very sad....wondering who will adopt it, now that I've abandoned it to the cold outdoors....

CharlesGordon 04-10-2003 05:56 PM

Maybe not yet, but you at least you actually know what the future will bring! I think this is very exciting...I was worried for a second that you might be Boxsterless for a longer period of time.

William Harris 04-11-2003 04:27 AM

So when do you take poss'n?

Rey: How longs the wait? Going cold turkey sucks. Get back in the saddle, its the only cure.

ReyF 04-11-2003 05:55 AM

We should have it

early next week

Survival guide!

Go to the movies. Read a good book. Watch Le Mans now on DVD! Play Need For Speed. Visit local Porsche dealership and take numerous test drives. Go to day spa or weekend retreat.

jtai21 04-12-2003 03:44 PM

who'da thunk it?

It's only been a couple of days, and we survived the winter without really driving it, but we sorely missed the Boxster today, especially after the rain stopped and the sun came out. I guess we survived the winter because we knew it was sitting in the garage.

We're just wishing our check would hurry through the mail so we can get the new baby.

Great time at Autofanatics run!

Dear GBBG: Despite poor weather at the beginning of the day, a small group enjoyed the great selection of goodies at Autofanatics. Shopping bags were filled and then we adjourned to Woodman's for a seafood feast. Afterwards, yours personally decided to declare that winter is over - I have now removed the hardtop and snow tires and prepared the car for top down motoring. Installed a couple of recent purchases from Griot's in the garage, especially like the mounting rod that allows you to hang the snow tires on the side of the garage wall. Off the floor and out of the way. Looking forward to the next get together. Charlie, keep us posted on date for the detailing meeting.

ReyF 04-14-2003 08:27 AM

So what did everyone buy?

I shopped online at a couple of detailing websites (including AutoFanatics) on Saturday in honor of you guys. Also picked up a Porter Cable random orbital buffer. With 3 cars to work on I figured it was time to graduate. Now all I need is a Boxster to use this stuff on!

donv 04-14-2003 09:34 AM

Didn't go too crazy -- a couple of microfibre cloths, some RaggTop protectant/coating and a bottle of the Zymol seal (door gasket, etc. protectant).

Good luck with the Porter Cable; definite gadget envy item!

CharlesGordon 04-14-2003 09:58 AM

I didn't go too crazy either, just some Raggtop, Lexol, a cool microfiber wash mitt (my sheepskin thing is nice but too much of a pain to dry out), a few other goodies. Oh, and a pink race car model for Sara. :)

I hope to have a sample of Menzerna sealant shortly, in time for the detailing session. We can be the first people in the US to try this stuff out--the U.S. importer is giving it to me to review. Not even CMA carries this stuff. It should be an interesting comparision with Zaino and the Klasse "twins."

CharlesGordon 04-14-2003 10:01 AM

Oh, I forgot to mention, too, that that wonderful afternoon Sara and I wandered over to Bates (Kimball) Farm in Carlisle and stumbled across a new potential member, Gene. He had a beautiful brand-new '03 S with Dark Teal and a fantastic exhaust note. Then who should could along but Bob and Darice! I guess Boxsters atract Boxsters! :)
