Air Filter Step By Step !!

Please help me replace my air filter in my 1997 Boxster!

I have no clue what to do. Would anyone be kind enough to take me step by step, to get through the process.

I was told it should not be too difficult and a DO it yourself deal

thanks

Put top down about 4 inches. Put car in service mode. Take out storage bin, take off engine cover, undo clips on airbox, pull airfilter out. Replace, and reverse directions.

Blinkwatt,

That is a really helpful website. Do you have one for the 2006-2007 Boxster 987?

As far as I know 987 aren't that different from 986 because they should be similar mechanically.

thats great guys I did it today took prob 15 mins

The air filter for a 987 is an entirely different one than on a 986 so there might be a couple more steps involved in terms of clamping the air filter in as opposed to dropping it in.

Just make absolutely sure the filter plenum is TOTALLY clean before putting the new filter back in. When you take out the old one, all the crap sitting on top falls into the plenum, and if you don't clean it out, it'll get sucked into the engine lickety split!

(I use my shop vac with a special attachment I made myself for cleaning the leaves and other crap from in front of the radiators without having to remove the bumper. It's just a piece of 1/2" pvc pipe about 2 feet long duct-taped to a fitting that'll attach to the vac.)

Put car in service mode? I'm sure you don't have to do this, right? Its an air filter!

Yup, you do. It's just an airfilter, but it's a b**ch to get to!

by "service mode" that means opening the top a few inches and getting to the engine? Its not actually putting the engine into a special valet type mode electrically for service right?

Correct. Just a top opening "status" known as "service position".
