Cigarette Lighter power off ability?

Is there some hack to change the cig lighter from always being on to turning off when I turn off the car? I want to put a USB adapter in it, but don't want to have to pull it each time I turn off the car.

Thanks.

The lighter is always hot so that you can plug a battery maintainer into it.

I plugged a UB adapter into my cig lighter... 7 years ago. I've never been compelled to remove it.

Why is it necessary to remove it each time you leave the car? What's the deal?

If a 986, you could always replace constant + on plug w switched + from the phone option plug buried at base of center column (or pulling line from fuse panel if 987 or 986). Or just add USB plug in dash w +12V switched power from phone plug (or again via pulling line from puse panel if 987 or 986) and leave cig lighter plug available for battery mainter use.

Good luck :)

you can leave it there all the time, if it has a little led light and you are worried that it would drain your battery, don't worry, they use very little power

When looking into the same issue I came across this video on YouTube ( it has English subtitles ). Seems like a reasonable way to solve the problem: https://youtu.be/vgE-5sXXbAs?si=V-XY6EhGOBGKyQLT

I did a similar thing except I didn't want to cut any wires.
Instead I removed the output pins of the cigarette lighter and phone connection fuses and swapped them.
Depinning the fuse fox connectors is a pain but in my opinion worth it.
