New Options For Colored Seat Belts

As I understand it, back in the day when these cars were new, one could factory order seat belt webbing in colors other than the standard black. I have heard that the belt color options on offer back then were red, blue, or yellow at a MRSP sticker add of $330.

Since my car has a Metropol Blue interior, I’ve often wondered how the car might have looked if the original owner had ticked the option box for the matching blue belts. So I started poking around the website of a firm who can re-web seat belts (as an aside, their biggest market is said to be refurbishing seat belts which the owner’s dogs have chewed). And I discovered that their webbing options are not limited to solid colors. Specifically, a black belt with blue edging was available, so I decided to take the plunge.

Enclosed is the end result.

This new seat belt color combination matches the blue stitching that I had picked several years ago for my replacement steering wheel. Together, the seat belts nicely compliment the steering wheel (and vice versa).

Looks good! I like the way the stripes on the belts tie in with the steering wheel stitching. Do you have photos of the project in process? It would be interesting to see how it's done.

Did not take any snaps during the installation, but it's pretty straightforward.

You need to remove the vertical carpet-covered trim panels which cover the bottom legs of the roll bar. These covers are held in place with a black screw near the bottom, and once that's removed, the cover just pulls up and off. Once this panel is off, all of the seat belt retention bolts can be easily reached.

I was asked by a fellow Metropol Blue interior owner if I could post a couple more pictures, showing how it all ties together:

If you search the archives under my user name, you should find a couple of older threads where I discussed the steering wheel.

All told, I think the new seat belts are a fairly subtle upgrade which compliments the other blue trim and stuff going on with the car's interior.
