Reading the previous DIY guides would have helped a lot! You made it appear to be a lot more difficult than it really is.

To remove the U pipe connecting the secondary cats and the muffler, first remove the heat shields so you have room to work. Then loosen the clamps and move the double clamp towards the cat until it releases the end of the U pipe. Then its really easy to work the U pipe out of the muffler..

Removing the side heat shields makes a huge difference in accessibility/ Three screws each and they are out!

You're right, I didn't read ANY other guides, I just started guessing... :p

I saw that. I was wondering if it was removed if there would be more wiggle room. Thanks for that tip.
