Whining noise at 2900rpm

I’d appreciate some advice. Thanks in advance. I have a high pitch whine above 2900 rpms. Here’s what I know so far

Definitely in the engine bay.
Alternator is charging at 14.1 V
It’s not the SAI system
Doesn’t seem to affect the running of the car

Any ideas what this could be?

98 2.5L 5 speed

Anyone in the passenger seat? My wife has been known to make whining sounds ~5500RPM. YMMV.

Apart from wife, i have one that whines while sitting on couch even, could be a water pump bearing or other bearing in the main belt ie ac pump, tensioner.

Remove the serpentine belt to see if the noise goes away, if it does the cause is a noisy pulley or water pump. If you detect any looseness or leakage from water pump replace with a new Pierburg pump.

Power steering pump? Low on fluid?

Well got it diagnosed at the shop. Bad belt tensioner and water pump. :(

Well at least that is a common issue, and sounds like you found it before it imploded inside.
