Frunk lid strut fix-easiest job ever

Don't live with weak gas struts one more day. Replacing them is under $30 and you need a small screwdriver. It's only slightly tougher than turning on the radio.

Open frunk and prop lid up taking care not to dent it. The strut mounts to the body via a ball joint at each end. To remove the ball joint, look for a flat spring-steel clip near the ball joint and visible with the lid open. Put the flat screwdriver into a flat area which has room for the blade of the driver to go under the spring, Twist the screwdriver which will pop the spring up and now pull or push the strut off of the ball joint mount. Installation is the reverse, just get the end of the strut correct.
If you need video, Google "DIY Boxster frunk strut replacement".

I just did both front and rear. Took 15 minutes, and I'm very happy with the results.

I'm always amazed when I look at cars with bad struts...I guess most folks don't realized how easy and inexpensive they are to replace. One exception is rear trunk hatch on SUV's can be expensive!

I need to do both as well. I can only find the struts for the trunk online. Are they the same for the frunk or is it a different part number? I’ve only had the car for a few days so I figured I would start with an easy project.

I need to replace the rear struts. Where did you get them? pelican?

Just ordered fronts and backs from Pelican.

I had a (what I call) serious mishap where the frunk dropped when I was doing a brake flush and dinged the hood.

Time to change all four!
