How to disassemble air vents?

Hi lady’s and gentlefolk. I’m not prepared to pull my whole heater box out to replace the foam this year, that can wait for next winter. But I am trying to put my driver’s side air vent back together. The little vertical bar that holds the horizontal flaps in place has fallen off. It appears to not be broken, but no amount of fiddling from the front side with pliers and hooks has allowed me to get it back. So I’ve pulled the vent. I’ve managed to undo the two clips on one edge, but I can’t get it fully off. I can see two more clips on the other side, but I’ve tried pulling and pushing in every direction but they don’t’ want to release. Is there some trick I’m missing?

Thanks in advance.

Well can't help with the disassembly, but my vent was the same as yours. I didn't take mine apart to fix. You will need to completely pop off the verticle bar that attaches to the back of the flaps. Then align the flaps and place the bar over the attachment points. You then snap the bar in place. It is a bit fiddly but doable. I did mine in a parking lot while the wife was running an errand. Good Luck and lots of patience.
