brakes?
my 2001 s DD needs brakes. Pads and rotors. Should i use Porsche, Brembo, or what?
Thanks |
Rotors: Meyle brand cross drilled OEM style are the best deal going now
Pads: I don't know, I've never bought street pads before, only track pads. I ran EBC Redstuff for a couple years street/track and they were good in the street. I have heard good things about Textar and I believe they are OEM. |
thanks, that's very usefull info, i may AX in the spring so street race pads would be perfect
|
Powerstop Z-16's are a really good street pad that you can definitely AX with. I have even don a track DE with them
They run around $35-$50 per axle on ebay and elsewhere They stop on a dime and give you 5cents change They are far less $$ than most other pads and work great. |
Brembo or Zimmermann if its a DD would be my choice.
|
Porsche OE pads and rotors are both breathtakingly expensive ... moreso than I've encountered on any other German car. Difficult to imagine much quality/performance difference compared to anything BMW, Mercedes, etc., use. These are just Boxsters, not GT3 911s.
I bought zimmermans for the maybe silly reason that they come with the same gray coating as OE Mercedes rotors. Pads any of the German brands |
The grey coating is zinc, and it helps prevent the rotors from rusting to the hubs.
|
The Meyle rotors for $75 a pair have coated hats
|
The gray coating is there mostly to prevent new rotors from rusting in the box.
There is no need to clean it off the braking surface during installation, as the pads will do that nicely. |
thanks all, lots of good info
