Can I Replace the Dashboard?

Hey folks. I'd like to upgrade to a Boxster S. I want white/black, like my 97 Base. But I'm finding all the S model interiors also come with blue accents. I don't want the blue.

So...
What would be involved in replacing all the blue components?

Cost estimate?
Worth it or waste?
DIY or shop job?
Other thoughts or 411?

Yes, the entire dashboard can be replaced. At least a couple people have swapped the dash or dyed it over the past year. I took one out, but have not done the install. Lots of labor, so I expect it would be expensive at a shop. DIY just takes patience and careful prying of the edge trim.

What blue accents are you talking about? I have a black interior and the only accents are silver.

Here's what I'm looking for...
986 Boxster S. Black top, Black interior.

I can find 986 Base Boxsters with all-black interior. Just not S models.
They always seem to have blue padding on the dash. I've been looking for some time now, and I keep running into it. I'm not finding all-black interior.

Some things just pop right off with a couple screws and a little prying. Those are my favorite car parts.

In my opinion, unless you are going to do it yourself, it is not worth it. As stated above replacing the entire dash is meticulous and extremely time consuming. I would guess that a shop would want at least a couple thousand dollars, plus the cost of the parts. I would look for a 986 with a dash you like.

Here's the thread where Meir posted a link to his Dashboard DIY:

There are non-blue dashboard S models out there. My 2000 has black leather. As Rick suggests, maybe finding the right car would be easier than finding the car and a dashboard to swap in.

Another S with Black interior here!
