Speedometer cluster surround
 

Hi,

I need to take off the piece that surrounds and goes over the top of the speedo cluster in my 2001 Boxster. Is it an easy process or virtually impossible? Im 62 and not the most dextrous person any more so standing on my head in the car is not in the cards.

Will the surround come off without removing the gauge cluster. Id like to take that off but leave the car operational. My plan is to have the surround covered in new leather.

You have to take it off as an assembly, but you can then unscrew the cluster from the surround and put the cluster back on. There won't be anything to hold it to the dash other than the wiring though, but I have BTDT a few times when testing things.

For what its worth, you can also drive around without the cluster.

I'm struggling with removing the emergency flasher switch. I have seen where the pelican diagram says push in the black clips and pull out the switch with needle nose pliars. But my switch won't budge. I'm pushing in the clips rather than pushing out. You have any other thoughts based on your experience? Have seen the warnings about breaking the housing so I'm trying to be gentle.

Success! Just took a little more maneuvering and a bit more force

I just removed the dash on my '98 Boxster. A couple of things to watch for:
Keep your eye on the little spring in the hazard warning switch
Make sure you re-install the hazard switch with the part no. On the bottom
The clip on the upper part of the housing is a bugger to get to. You may have a piece of plastic blocking access and you will have to cut it off.
Make a note of your needle placements in case you bump them with a finger. Just saying.

The top is screwed on with about 9 screws with one on the side. You can take it off then put the cluster back in until it gets done.
