Need Help w/ Depo LED tail lights
I bought a pair of Depo LED tailights. The lights have 1 bank of LEDs as brake-lights, and a second bank of LEDs for fog lights. I connected the foglight bank of LEDs to the brake light bank but the foglight bank does not light up? I did red wire to red, black wire to black. I was hoping I could have both light up as my brake lights. Can anyone advise me why they are not lighting up? What can I do?
Thanks |
Take a look at this thread:
http://986forum.com/forums/performance-technical-chat/21153-depo-led-tail-lights-installed.html I followed the instructions there. My jumped fogs do not always come on with the first press of the brake pedal but they always come on with the second. I am guessing that I need to add a resistor to the wiring to get rid of that behavior. What I did is connect the fog light to the brake lights on the left side and then ran a wire to the right side, so now both LED's come on for the brakes. __________________ |

Same here. Have had two autolecticians look at this but still does not work. Seems to work after first time but if you wait 20sec then it goes back to only working for the brake on first press then both.

Wiring both banks with a load resistor in parallel should solve this.
|
I tried that but didn't solve it. I probably didn't do it right so I will try again some day when I have time.

Ah...I think we may have discussed it before. It's too bad that I don't have mine anymore. :(
|
Yea we did Charles. I tried using the resistors but the result still was not consistent. I'll play with them again when I don't have so many other things going on around the house.

Well, at least I now know it isn't a defective light. My guess is that the vehicle detects a problem the first time then adapts. I had an auto electrician try resistors but that didn't work. Not sure whether a relay with a separate power supply might work.

Depo light problem
I tried wiring them in parallel, in series, with resistors, without resistors and still can't solve the problem. I am on the verge of just reverting back to my OEM lights but i love the updated look of the LEDs. Someone please figure this out for us!
Thanks guys |
Why would you go back to the ugly OEM lights an still have the issue of one bank of taillights unless you modded your fogs to coincide with your brake lights? I saw the issue with wiring the fogs with brake lights and I just decided to make my fogs my turn signals. I get your frustration though because having the fogs as brake lights would be way better than the one section. The depot lights look a thousand times better than the oem lights though :).
