Replace / Upgrade rear deck speakers?
hi all,
Just looking for some info on the rear speakers in my 2002 Boxster. Sounds like I blew one up and I am looking to replace it. Are there any drop in replacements or just stock ones? If I upgrade to 3.5" speakers any suggestions on the speakers or install tips? I am running a dual din Pioneer GPS head unit, plugged into the stock amp and speakers, Thanks Mike |
If you do a search you'll find some threads that talk about types of rear box speakers.

Many moons ago I installed an aftermarket kit by Harvey of PNP.
It has 3.5" speakers. I heard he's not selling them any more, but it can be done. Here's a comparison of the 3.5 ("PNP") and Porsche stock ("Others"). Sorry for the poor picture quality. I can snap a clearer pic of my 3.5's if you need. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1415990257.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1415990274.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1415990289.jpg |

Thanks everyone for helping out and directing me to some old posts.
I bought 4 of the 3.5" Pioneer speakers and am going to mount them by reaming out the current mounting brackets. I will wire them up so that I have 8 ohms, my Pioneer deck works between 4 and 8 ohms. After this I may look into upgrading the door speakers. From what I read those look like they are just bass speakers. I know in the past that simply upgrading the speakers provides me with what I feel is adequate sound. Since I have a Pioneer Dual Din with decent stock power I do not think I need amps at this time. Has anyone just replaced the door speakers without adding an amp? And are they really just bass speakers? guess I could put my ear next to them. Maybe as I gain confidence I will step up to a full new system, I am sure it would be nice to use all the sound shaping tools the deck has, Mike |
