Rear Speaker Setup

On my old Miata, in each of the headrests, there was a pair of speakers; left and right speakers for each seat. Now as I'm getting ready to add the rear speakers in my Boxster, I'm wondering if I should do the same. I'm already going to be installing 2 speakers per side. Would it be better to have a left and right speaker behind each seat, or should I wire them so that the two on the left are left only and the two on the right are right only? Any opinions?

Are you putting them in the headrests? If so, then I would want each seat to have a left and right pair. If they are in the storage box, then do the standard set up where the two speakers on the right, are right and the same for the left.

They'll be installed in the storage box, but I think they will be close enough to appreciate the separate channels. I'm afraid if I install it with the standard setup, I won't be able to hear the right channel at all.

I think you will, I do. That is how it is set up in mine. Remember, you have left and right in the dash so changing that in the rear probably wouldn't sound right IMO. You can always try it and see though. It would not be difficult to wire it that way and see if you like it.

I have installed the rear speakers and they only fill in the sound. In fact with the headrest in the way you only really hear sound from the outside of the seat. I have them wired in series with the LHS two speakers together and the RHS speakers together. Not sure you would hear the stereo if you wired then as you are suggesting.
