On my '98 they just snap out. The wire connecting the light is short, so don't go too far with the old lamp before you twist and remove the bulb along with its socket. The new clear lens just snaps in. It takes quite a bit of pull to get it out, but trust me, it will pop out.

Touch the Icon,

From my experience taking one light assembly off to replace a bad bulb and later taking the front bumper cover off to clean out the radiators, this worked for me:

My recommendation is from the front push the light assembly back toward the wheel well.

There is a spring like clip at the wheel well end of the light assembly. It will give just enought to clear the two little plastic prongs on the front end.

To replace the light assembly, put the rear end (wheel well end of the assembly) in first and push it back until the front two prongs can clear and be pushed in.

replacing the filament bulb with LED will transform the marker lighting to cool white color. do the same for the driving light (not the headlight) in the headlight assembly.

Cool white color may be illegal in some states.

It's a great upgrade and I replaced the bulbs with an LED. On a silver 2004 986 it's a great look. Now if I could get them to stay on with headlights and flash with turn signal I'd be very happy. It appears that we'd need a separate bulb mount on the housing. I thought about trying to engineer it with my old side marker bulb fixtures, but haven't got that far.

So why stop there you ask...well I didn't.

Had the flasher mod done by my audio installer.

Changed out all interior lights to LED. Replaced headlight with HID, and parking lights with LED.

Had the DRL mod done by my audio installer and replaced the bulbs with LEDs.

Replaced license plate lights and both trunks with LEDs.

When I replaced my side markers with clear, I also put in silver bulbs that have an orange filament. Problem is, they get hotter than hell and I was afraid they would actually melt the lens.

Sounds like a few of you have replaced stock bulbs with LEDs. Has anyone replaced the tail light bulbs with LED? If so, where did you get the LEDs and what type did you use? Any issues?

Pictures, or it didn't happen
I bought the LEDs from here: http://store.ijdmtoy.com/
They have a bulb selector program for any car. All were error free. Good retailer, large inventory, knowledgeable.

For the HIDs, yes my tech installed them in the sockets. What's the issue?

I appreciate your information and noted the unfocused light spill is negligible. I will conduct my own research regarding the legality of the modification.

However, I don't appreciate your snide and condescending comments and tone. They were completely unnecessary, offensive in nature and only dilute the value of your comments.

Appreciation is not necessary or needed. When you post on a public forum, expect uncensored opinions. I'm not here to stroke your ego.

It's not like I said that it is completely "ghetto fabulous", a la 1991 Honda Civic.

I never thought the topic of side markers could draw so much discussion.
