MAF Replacement
I have a CEL code that says I need a new MAF.
Who was the OEM for the 1998 Boxster? What brands are recommended and available today? |
You can buy an oem sensor (made by Bosch) from a dealership at $600 plus, or Bosch equivalent at $250 plus. Some have suggested that the Bosch sensors vary in terms of quality control however. In the past I found an excellent aftermarket sensor for $89 - that unfortunately is no longer produced.
|
I'm confused because my indy says his source is $320. Suncoast says $520. Pelican Parts says $87 rebuilt or $104. I know prices vary, but this is too much of a variation.
|
Schellman, when I looked up the Bosh MAF's on Pelican I found prices ranging from $236.25 to $254.25 (depending upon year) - and remember, these are Bosch OEM and not from the Porsche parts catalogue. Suncoast sells only Porsche parts.

173 shipped OEM Bosch just installed it few days ago wow whole new car |
I would go with the Bosch part. I bought an aftermarket for $100 and while it works, it's not right on the button according to the o2 sensor readings on the dura metric. If I had to do it over again, I would pay the extra and get the Bosch.

RockAuto.com has the MAF for your Boxster (BOSCH Part # 0280217007) for $173.89. You can get another 5% off using code 164173797957921. Enter the code in the "How did you hear about us" line of the shopping cart.
I bought a Bosch one from them for my Boxster and it was perfect. Like others have said, it was a night and day difference in the cars performance. |
Son of a *****!!! I ordered a new MAF from pelican yesterday with shipping was about $277. If I had waited a day I could of saved over $100. That sucks for me :ah:. Thanks for posting that for others though. Save some money folks!
Chuck, which year/model is that MAF for? I think there are 4 different ones between 1999-2004 from what I understand. |
Installed new MAF and idle is rock solid but still showing high fuel pressure on gauge... Have only run the MAF for about 95 miles since Friday so maybe it'll take more to time to "learn" the correct AFR

I got the Bosch MAF for $240 through my local Carquest Auto Parts store. Called it in on my way to work and picked up on way home (no clue where they sourced it). Came in Bosch box and included 12 month warranty. Was nice to not have to wait on shipping and at least I can take it back to them to help if I have an issue.
Running like a new car, swear I got 20hp back... |
Hi.
I put one in my 03 2.7 986 today, had it in my tool box for a month + now, but after reading this thread I decided to try the new one out even though my old one is still working fine. Had a problem with my MAF and it put my engine managment light on, that was confirmed by a good independent Porsche garage about a month ago, the cost of a new one from a OPC would of been in the £100's so me being a tight bugger thought i'd cleaned it with carb cleaner first, and it's worked fine ever since, however when the engine management light came on last month I thought I might need a new one so I found this Maf on eBay:- Item number 370874725806 cost £29.99p not sure how much that is in US Dollars. Well took the car for a test drive and it drives sweet as anything, no idling problems, no miss fires, pleanty of power, in other words runs perfect. I will be watching my fuel economy on the trip computer see what i'm getting now mpg as it was on 30.4/7 with the old one and that was on it's way out, will keep you posted when I've done a few more miles to get a good average read out on mpg. The numbers on the mafs :- Old one taken out was a Bosch one 986 606 125 01 New one in now has no makers mark on it but the eBay add gives the following:- Porsche part number 986 606 125 00 Bosch part number 0280218055 Like I said working fine just need to keep an eye on mpg Guvs PS Forgot to say they even give a 2 year warranty with it. |
