MY2002 2.7 Power Steering Pump

Have any of you guys replaced your power steering pumps recently? ?

I found a short guide on here [posted by itoy] that suggests that it requires access from the upper engine comparment in addtionto the bulkhead and it sounds a bit tricky.

I've found precious little else on the subject although the system does come in for some criticism, esp. for track use, and I've even seen that GSR Autosport have developed and Electric Power Steering Pump Conversion Kit

P.S. I had my car serviced by a Porsche dealer last year when it was emitting an excruciating noise but they seemed to be happy to send me off whith a fluid top-up which certainly reduced the noise, but I now feel that I want to eliminate it altogether. Perhaps they thought I would have baulked at the cost as it would appear to invovle several hours work and it wouldn't take much before we are talking about 10% of the total 'value' of the car...
