Finally painted my calipers. Decals on the way.
To anyone who said "30 mins a wheel" or "this is an afternoon project"...
Either I'm a clumsy idiot, or just have an eye super attention to detail. This took me a whole day (technically, a morning and a night). I had my brother help (and by help, I mean he basically did everything since he's got the hands of a surgeon... literally... as in he's a surgeon.) First we took off the wheel and removed the brake pads. We started this by sanding down the calipers and making sure they were squeaky clean. Don't rush the prep work. My fronts were already a faded red, so sanding that was very difficult. Slowly but surely. Whew. Rear Post-Enamel: https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...42439747_n.jpg With wheels: https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...09098939_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...48100124_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...13819234_n.jpg Overall final product: https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...94794540_n.jpg I won't lie. It was a lot of work, and to be honest, I could've just spent another $250 and have a pro do it. But in the end, a $50 DIY job successful. Decals should be coming in today. |
Great job! You used the bag trick. After you put on the decals, are you going to use a clear coat?

Ah... yellow !

Nice job. I like the yellow calipers on black - wonder how they would look on an Artic Silver.

So they came in yesterday.

Looks great!
Mine were red, but since the clear has come off, they are now a powdery dull red... It HAS to be from cleaning chemicals used in the past (or UV exposure?) because when I changed the pads/rotors, only the outside facing part of the caliper is missing the clear. The rest of the caliper looks beautiful and glossy. My plan is to lightly wet sand where I can, and try re-clear... Hoping it turns out as well as yours. |
