Speaker loose cables?
 

The sound coming from the stereo only comes out from the left speakers. Every once in a while I'll drive over a bump in the road and the right speakers come back to life briefly. My Boxster has an aftermarket dvd player from the previous owner... I'm guessing a loose connector somewhere?

I realize of all problems this is really trivial but hey...

It may be one of the speakers...
 

I had a similar problem on my '01 Boxster with the right dash speaker, but found out it was the speaker itself. The CDR-220 radio on mine is reasonably easy to remove (you can get the Porsche radio removal tools from Suncoast), but the dash speakers are a pain in the butt since one of the mountings screw is very close to the windshield. You can check that the wires are plugged in securely on both the back of the radio and speakers (and the amp in the front trunk, if you have one). But my guess is it may be a problem with one of your speakers (like mine) since the method Porsche uses for securing the plugs is very good.

I just replaced the head unit on my 986. Speakers were doing that before changing it, and I thought it might be the wires. They're still doing that now, so I'm pretty sure its the speakers themselves.

I am having the same problem. Tanlm responded to my other post suggesting it is the speaker itself. Can anyone confirm this?

Again, my dash speakers (both) go out intermittently over bumps. It just seems odd that both dash speakers would cut out at the same time. Seems like loose wiring to me but I can't for the life of me figure out where it could be loose. btw - I've recently installed rear speakers and 6-channel amp...no problems for about 1 month.

I've now tried tightening at the back of the radio and amp. I'm reluctant to take the dash covers off to check them since both dash speakers go out at the same time. Seems like loose amp wiring to me.

Had a similar problem with my R.H, speaker, turns out it was a pushed back pin on the mini connector at the rear of the head unit - they are tiny pins/sockets look very carefully one may have slipped out of the plastic housing. :cool:

The dashboard speakers are relatively easy to remove if you use a torx bit in a ratchet drive socket.

check the cable wires if they are connected properly so, problem is in your speaker not in cable.
