Powder Coated Exhaust Tips

Hi all,
My exhaust seemed to always get dirty, car loves to be driven hard and I burn a lot of oil, as you can see from the drips on my pipes below.

So I decided it was time to Powered Coat them flat back !!!

$25 dollars later, they look great. I also painted the muffler with“high temp exhaust paint”, never liked that it could be seen. The flat black hides it.

The whole project cost me under $35 bucks and I think it looks great and wanted to share.
Thanks,
Cesar

crios - looks cool.

can you take another pic from the rear/side - to get an idea how it looks from further away, looking at the car from an angle.... so seethe tips from the side?

did you take the tips off to paint them? mine are welded on, so if I did that, I'd have to mask off a LOT and spray.

I like the idea of spraying the muffler. I think it's ugly to see the muffler too and painting it black makes it far less noticeable.... especially since you hve the 03+ bumper with diffusers..the mufler is pretty hidden..but it peeks through..

on my 2000 - you just SEE the whole bottom half of the muffler...not sure if painting mine black would look good or weird...as you see more of the muffler...it would hide it/camo it becuase it would blend in with the undercarriage/shadows...but if you did "see" it...it might look odd to see a bunch of black...

anyone do this on a pre-03?

looks nice.... now you need to do the same paintjob to your wheels...... :)

Thanks!

Below are some more pics.

I took the tips off and then to a professional powder coating shop for a flat black finish. I then taped off the rear and painted the actual muffler myself with high temp paint.

I think pre-03 might look fine on a dark car like yours, would stand out too much on a white car for example.

I'm leaving the wheels as is :)

I am painting the silver liner above the tips later today, looks odd now that the tips are black.

that looks good.

if you keep modding at this pace you're going to run out of things to do.... :)

how did you take off the silver lining to paint it?

how much did it cost you to powdercoat? can't you do that yourself?

do you remember where you got the high temp paint from?

I like it.. a lot. I've been trying to find a solution like that for mine. Unfortunately, mine is an 01 and has the single oval shaped tip which I think is welded on. (At least I can't find any screws or bolts and there's a weld seam between it and the muffler) So, unless I want to cut and reweld, it looks like my only option is to paint, and I'm not sure that would look nearly as good as yours do. Take more pics after you do the silver surround.

Thanks

Bob

The Silver lining is painted. I simply masked off the entire rear and painted on the spot with a can of paint. It was fairly easy.

Cost for the Professional Powder Coating was $25
Hi Temp paint for muffler, from local Auto Parts store, was $9
Plastic Paint for the Silver lining was $5 at hardware store.

Bob O, one option for you is to use the G2 Brake Caliper paint in black and brush it on. It dries to a gloss and should be able to withstand the high temps of the exchaust.
