coolant smell through air vents

I am getting strong radiator coolant odor out of my interior air vent. Could this be a heater core problem?

I had several whiffs of coolant a few months ago. My Boxster is an 00S and had the original coolant cap, which has been updated by Porsche now on its 4th edition. My local dealership had the updated cap in stock for $24.00. No one whiff of coolant since replacement last November.

The part number is : 996-106-447-04

Wiff of coolant but not from the vents...

It seems after I drive my car and park it in the garage I smell coolant. No leaks or puddles under the car. Coolant level has stayed the same all summer. No over heating issues. Anyone have a similar issue? Normal for these cars? This is my second car and I don't remember this with the first one. A buddy of mine has a 2000 996 and he says he smells it too every once in a while. Anyone?

I have the same issue in my 2000 S. The coolant level stays the same, but I get a whiff of what I believe is coolant after I park the car and get out. I have asked other people's opinion on what the smell is, and I get a different answer with every person I ask.

My 97 had a similar issue. Heater core was leaking slightly. Heater cores on the Boxster do not turn off in the summer. There is no "ranco" type valve in the system, they are always cycling coolant. A small drip can cause a big smell in the cabin...they are relatively easy to change IMHO.
