Removing Cd holder and replacing with cup holders

Hi everyone, Ive just bought my boxster s 2001 Tip and am very happy with it although i was spewing that it did not have cup holders.

So ive bought some off ebay and now have to replace the cd holder with the cup holders, anyone with good advice in regards to ripping off the front dash around radio etc would be much appreciated.

Ill have some photos of my ride up soon..

cheers

CD holder is very easy to get out. Just press the buttons to open the two middle CD holders of the four, and then grab a hold of it and pull straight out. The whole unit will pop right out.

Heh I was getting annoyed of not having cup holders either, so I drove down to Auto Zone, and got a cup holder set that fits between the center console and passenger seat. It's barely any compromise to anything, even passenger room. Only cost me 7 bucks.

But it does look a little bad, so I guess getting proper cup holders may be better.

Can you post a picture of the cup holder in place? I have the same issue when I removed the headunit and cup holder for the Avic D3. I was thinking of doing something similar but wasn't sure how it would work.

Thanks,
-Steve

Like to see a picture because your 2001 should have cupholders. From my failing memory the only way to avoid them was is if you had the PCM or DSP options.

I had the stock cup holders but removed them when I put in the Avic D3 - that's why I wanted to see the after market one from AutoZone. I was thinking of removing the CD holder and putting back the original cup holder in place of the CD holder but it might be too close to the stick shift when in 1st, 3rd or 5th gear.

Hi
I got a 2001 just last week and was surprised about the lack of cupholders too, atm I am just using the centre console for my coffee and trying not to accelerate too fast. BTW im in Oz too, where are u?

Thanks for the heads up..

I ended up just leaving the cup holders out... I've got them for sale if anyone wants to buy them. Original OEM porsche cup holders.. just email or message me and we'll work something out.

Ive decided im not going to put them in as i might be uprgrading to a 911 at the end of this year.. Fingers crossed!!!

What the heck...those dinky OEM cupholders wouldn't begin to hold an oil can of Fosters.
