Installed Stebro Sport exhaust
Installed the Stebro Sport exhaust with secondary cat bypass pipes over the weekend. All I can say is I LOVE the sound, breath taking! Install was quite easy, all the mounting brakets and pipes lined up perfectly, even with my cheap, knock-off, ebay headers. Very impressive.

We need a sound clip!! :)

Sound clip and pictures!!!!!
|
I'll post some pics, sound clip might take some time as I have never done one before. I have a camcorder but doubt that will translate the true sound very well. Any suggestions on making a good clip?

How's the resonance (cabin howl) between 2-3k? Would one's wife comment on how loud it is while sitting in traffic bumping along?
|
I've read and heard about other owners comment on resonance between 2-3k rpm. If it's there I haven't noticed it as such, yes the exhaust is much more aggresive and louder than stock, above 4k it it's really wicked. There is also a burble and popping noises when decelerating or downshifting (which I like, sounds like my old C5 'vette with a Manaflow exhaust). I can say it does not sound like the GHL mufflers that I have heard and personally didn't like, it (GHL)sounded nore raspy at 2-3k than throaty like the Stebro.

The factory beast removed.

The light and sexy Stebro.

Muffler installed with the cat-bypass pipes.

and the final result.....

Wow, is that system $2250?

blue2000s Wow, is that system $2250? No, I have the headers you can get off of ebay for around $100.00 and Stebro accecpted my offer of $800.00 for the Sport exhaust w/ the bypass pipes. |
If you have the headers off of ebay, then I assume they don't have catalytic converters built in them (like the fabspeed ones). I think that means that you don't have any catalytic converters at all - correct? Are you getting a Check Engline Light?

This is correct, I am not currently running any cats. I had my ECU reprogrammed to eliminate the use of the rear O2 sensors, thus no CEL. |
SRQ,
What year is your Boxster? And what engine? Are you running 0 cats now or 2 now? |
[QUOTE]Gary in BR SRQ,

Do they require periodic inspections in Florida? If so, any concerns about failing emissions with no cats?
|
Quote:
No, FL no longer has State inspections. |
I am interested in deleting my cats.
Would you mind reffering me to whomever did your programing? |
Quote:
Gary, contact Guy at Renn Haus. This is local tuner that did the programming for me. |
Thanks
He must be really good, from my understanding to crack into the Porsche code is pretty difficult. Your lucky having him nearby. |

No problem, give them a shout. They are some of the most talented guys I've come across in the business. |
was it hard to install the headers?
|
I'll answer for my recent experience. First, it should take maybe two hours, a simple and straightforward project. But as with all exhaust projects there is room for difficulty because of the heat everything has been subjected to over the years. Head bolts don't want to come out, pipe clamps won't budge, joints won't seperate...you know the story.
But if you are prepared ahead of time it should be easy. Have a means to drive out the four studs that are pressed into the three-hole flange. I used a vice and an oversized socket - no problem. Then have a propane tourch to heat the headbolts for easier removal. And some WD40 to soak other fasteners. Finally when you get the old manifold off use it, and the stock gasket, as a template to make sure your header holes are exact. And again be prepared to drill a bit if needed. So if you are prepared as above it's not a bad job. |
