Shift Cable REPAIR!

Does anyone know how to disconnect the shift cable from the transmission linkage for a 98 Boxster? Is it just a ball and socket, if so, I tried to pop it out by hand and with a screwdriver/pry bar. Thanks. LeoD.

I recently dropped the tranny from my 98 Boxster to replace the RMS and IMS seal. Place two large screw drivers one on each side of the ball and pry off. It takes a little pressure and they just pop off.

I have a 5 speed tranny built after April 21, 97. Those built before according to Bentley have a retaining clip.

6 speed have a prying tool (u shaped).

Hope this helps!
