When I changed the oil, I carefully inspected the cartridge and found zero evidence of metallic debris.

Two things to acknowledge: 1) The oil filler tube has a defect, about 4-6" inches in. I use a funnel with surgical tube to bypass, avoiding any oil on the block. I have the replacement tube, but haven't gotten around to replacing. 2) The seats have some sort of repair to address cracks; it's hardly noticeable, but the seats are not perfect.
