2000 986 (3.2L) With hardtop

I am looking to part with my 2000 Porsche Boxster (3.2L) + Hardtop. The only reason I am selling it is because my father offered his Cayman (987) to me for an unbeatable price and I am looking to downsize from 5 Porsches to 3.

I purchased this car approximately three years ago with a blown engine. The chassis had ~147k miles on it. When searching for a replacement engine, I found a 3.2L S parts car and promptly purchased it and swapped in the engine.

First, details about the car.

-It currently has 163k miles on the body. ~108k miles on the 3.2L engine.
-Black exterior with a black interior. The seats are full power supple leather seats from a 996.
-It has litronics. I added them so they do not have the factory ride height adjusters. They stay at the default low level. They provide great visibility at night.
-It has an aftermarket GAAH Glass top.
-It has a secondary air injection delete chip (supplied from Particlewave). It does not trigger a CEL, all monitors set.
-It has the stock headers, circuitwerks midpipe cat deletes with a GHL muffler. It sounds really nice with the top down and passes emissions. I have the stock S muffler and the stock mid pipes which are included with the car.
-New OEM window regulators.
-Aftermarket short shifter
-It has the third radiator installed off of the 986 S parts car. The front hoses/cooling lines were transferred over. It looks like the factory setup.
-I have a silver hard top that I am including if I get my asking price. The locks are included
-I installed a double din Sony radio with carplay (looks factory). Retained the stock amp/speakers.
-Stock 986 brakes were retained so I could continue to run 16” wheels. The stock brakes are the same piston size as the 944 turbo and my experience with them is great.

Details about the “S” engine

The S engine had approximately 93,000 miles at the time of the swap. The factory five speed 2.7L transaxle was retained. I didn’t want to deal with six speed 2nd gear pop out issues and the five speed has a more favorable gear ratio. It is also the same as a VW Passat FWD transaxle. They are cheap, plentiful and stout.

The leakdown numbers on the engine were strong. I also have a Blackstone oil analysis report that shows the engine was in good health. The following items were changed before the engine was installed.

-Oil Cooler Seals (there was no intermix)
-Pierburg Waterpump
-Thermostat (Low Temp LN engineering installed)
-IMS Bearing (OEM from Pelican)
-AOS, AOS breather hoses
-Spark plug tube seals
-Spark plugs (OEM Beru)
-Oil dipstick seals
-OEM RMS (installed with the factory tool)
-Clutch/Flywheel (2.7L used with the 3.2L engine to mate the 5 speed)
-Secondary air injection delete (Used the OEM block off plate that the ROW cars had)
-New Voltage regulator/brush pack on the alternator
-DME reflashed to the stock S mapping from the factory PST2 tool. The factory immobilizer codes are included with the car
-New Bosch MAF

After the engine installation, the following was done on the car:
-Axle shafts replaced from a low mileage 60k 986.
-New front and rear rotors and pads (Pagid)
-LN Engineering oil filter adapter installed
-Front/rear bilsteins installed with the OEM springs.
-New Pre/Post O2 sensors (4).
-Oil was always changed every 4,000 miles with Castrol Edge 5W40.
-Rear suspension control arms and thrust arms replaced.
-Rear wheel bearings replaced
-Front strut mounts replaced
-New motor mount (Lemforder)

I'm sure I am missing other things... I am going to go through my records and update this.

Things I am including with this car:
-Arctic Silver Hardtop (if I get my asking price)
-Stock exhaust
-Rear bilsteins
-Oil pan extension and baffle
-Suspension parts off of the S car (control arms, sway bars, etc)
-Spare heater core
-Secondary air injection stuff off of the S engine
-Lots of miscellaneous parts from my parts car (HVAC fan, etc)

Issues with the car:
- As mentioned before, the passenger side window goes up after the handle is released. The microswitch needs to be changed.
-There is a little bit of clear coat peel on the body by the lower rockers. One dent in the trunk. The exterior and the interior are both a 6/10. Again, this is a drivers car.
-The front bumper is rough. I had a friend repaint it but the previous owner hit a snowbank with it so there is some Bondo in there. There is a minor paint bubble. Some mounting tabs are missing/broken. I cut a small hole for the center bumper - it looks good from a few feet away.
-All of the plastic under trays are off (included with the car).
-There is a minor oil weep from the lower AOS bellow. I have the part but I have not had the time to change it.
-Minor squeaking sound from the front suspension. The front control arms should eventually be replaced.
I have lots of detailed pictures of the engine swap. It was performed on a lift with the factory shop manual and the Bentley manual.

I love this car and I really hate to sell it. My asking price is $12,000 WITH THE HARD TOP. My logic is 9,500 for the car and $2,500 for the hard top. It really is a great car, I hate to see it go.

Please let me know if you want any detailed photos. It is very hard to photograph this car in the light. I am happy to facetime any potential buyers.

I wanted to list it here before I post it on FB.

Tell us it comes with that $2,500 hard top. Then $9,500 might be reasonable. GLWS.

Is the oil pan extension and baffle not installed? If so, would you sell it separately?

did you read the post under "included items?"

cmon man :)

Also, I know this forum isn't exactly at peak usage these days, but it can't be any secret here that 986 prices have absolutely skyrocketed in the past couple years (far more than other used cars have)

I've seen base model 986 sell for more lately

edit: yeah, i do understand that the level of "how much can i trust this guy's work" and "how badly was this car treated in the past to need all the mods" factors into the equation... so i do see your point, and I also wouldn't pay this much for a 5sp boxster... but the price doesn't seem off when the hard top and litronics basically cover half the cost of the thing.
