Windows don't drop 1/4" when you open the doors

97 2.5

Windows drop when I unlatch the top but neither drop by the door latch.

I'm sure there is a thread for similar but couldn't find it.

Anyone?

Thanks.

Jb

Broken window regulators. There are a number of threads but I don't know the search term for finding them. Essentially, when you open the doors, the regulators are just taking up a small bit of slack in the cables and the windows themselves don't drop enough to really notice. When you unlatch the top, the all slack gets taken up and then the windows drop more.

PS: Try this to get started: http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/25704-window-regulator-permanent-fix-stretched-cable.html

Garage
There are also micro-switches that fail that cause it to not drop at all (handle switch) or go back up while the door is open and the handle released (latch switch).
Whatever the problem, look through these articles at Pelican:

I don't think I broke anything or left something disconnected but....maybe.

I had the same problem. For me, it was the window regulators. I wish Porsche programmed them to drop more when opening doors. Even with new regulators, it wasn't perfect. PITA

I had the same problem a couple weeks ago. I posted about the same message here and used the link that a forum member put on the thread and this one about the "permanent fix for stretched cable".

I am not mechanical at all (quite an understatement) but I went to a Boxster owning friend who is mechanical and he used this fix. So far, it's worked fine.

Good luck

I just had this same problem and I fixed it today. I bought a used door latch mechanism from Woody and I installed it today. There is a microswitch in the door latch mechanism that goes bad without warning. It took me about an hour to swap out the old part for the new one. It fixed the problem. The windows now roll down 1/4" when the door handle is pulled and they stay down until I close the door.

A word of advice, order new door panel clips from Pelican Parts before you tackle this project. They will break when you pull the panel off of the door. They get old and brittle. There are 8 or 9 clips for each door. I counted 9 but Pelican Parts says there are only 8. Regardless, you will want these so you don't have to pull the door apart again after having changed the door latch mechanism.
