"ALL PORSCHE M96 AND M97 ENGINES from 1997 through 2008 have the potential for Intermediate Main Shaft (IMS) failure although the risk continues to decline as the cars get older. If you're planning to buy a used Porsche of recent vintage, it's hard to avoid one of these cars and you need to assess the risk associated with this potential problem. ... The cost of a replacement bearing and labor for installation appears to be close to $2000. This is a small investment compared to the rebuild or replacement cost of an engine should you have an IMS failure..."

PORSCHE lettering
 

Well done. A VERY nice early model. Given the mileage I am particularly struck at the fine appearance of the automobile. (Felt calling it a car was not befitting of ts condition.)

Tell me about the PORSCHE lettering. Assume the Boxster emblem was removed, and though I've never removed it myself, was always under the belief that there would be holes in the trunk lid that would need to be filled and painted. Is that correct? Then, what was involved in adding the lettering? It looks great. Tell me more. Thanks, Joe

No holes, doublesided tape. Comes right off if you slide dental floss underneath.

That's correct the badge is just stuck on with double sided tape. it does take some doing to take it off though and the finish needs to be polished and buffed after.

For my new badge I modeled it and had a 3D print made in vinyl which is finished in metallic silver. I really did not want chrome lettering.

FYI, I wanted to de-badge the rear and found my emblem had been re-glued on, no double sided tape, and there was paint damage. Rather than having trunk re-painted I replaced the rear emblem to cover up the mess.
