Don't limit yourself to 50 miles. 200-500 miles is more reasonable. And gives you a chance to drive it home and become one with the Boxster.

I agree, the reality is you have to cast your net pretty far. I am also in the DFW area but ended up buying mine in Atlanta. Now that is a bit far, but the state of Texas and surrounding states would be reasonable to find the "right" car. It pays to be choosey.

There is a very nice Midnight Blue/Sand Beige 2006 Boxster S on Rennlist. User name "barische". 22,000 miles. Tip trans. $32,000. Northeast USA. Contact barische@aol.com. Good luck.

All,

Thanks for the advise. I saw the ParkPlace one but it was out of my $ reach. Will cast wider and see what turns up!

I agree. I don't live near TX, but I eventually found the Box I was looking for 200 miles away.

They're out there, keep looking.

That exact same car was listed on Craigslist a few months ago in Frisco, not Dallas, for 17.5 K.

Something's fishy................

Just sayin'.......................

Besides Autotrader and Cars.COM are there any other sites where people put up their cars for sale? Expanded my search to 300 Miles around DFW - Still no success yet :( Maybe people have started stowing away their Boxers for Winter!

steved0x 10-28-2013 02:54 PM

I bought mine through eBay of all places. I was definitely searching the other sites as well, but the one that caught my eye was on eBay. I had a PPI done remotely, and then flew in and drove it back from PA to NC.

Agree with Flavor: Expand your search horizon, especially if you have a specific color/option profile in mind.
I am in Alabama. The first Boxster I tried to buy was in Atlanta. When I called Sunday to arrange a PPI Monday (after seeing car Fri night), I was told a Colorado buyer had verbally committed to buy it sight unseen and was wiring the money.
The next one to catch my eye was in Chicago. I emailed as soon as I saw it, but by the time I made contact with the seller, he had a verbal commitment from a buyer (986forum member) from TX, who stole that beauty from my grasp.
The third one was in Texas. I called within 24 hr of the listing, but the seller told me he had taken a call about an hour earlier from a guy in NY who was flying that afternoon to look at it, provided he would hold it until he could get there. That guy bought it (for his daughter!).
Finally I found my car in Philly, put down earnest money, and flew up there to take it for a PPI and back to its new home. The drive back was fantastic (except the gravel truck, whose driver should be glad the FAA doesn't allow firearms in carry-on luggage). That car was only available to me because another out-of-state buyer had backed out of the deal.
The point is, long distance purchases seem more the norm than the exception for these. There are a lot out there. But the choice specimens are limited and worth travelling for.
Consider Ebay, but unless you are very familiar with these cars, a Strong PPI with PIWIS interrogation is absolutely essential. Carfax is a start, but do not regard it as the final word for accident history - I've bought 2 cars off Ebay, both had undisclosed accident repairs which I caught on inspection but were not deal-breakers.

I sent you a PM

sudheendrar 10-31-2013 12:48 PM

Thanks y'all for encouraging me to keep the faith / patience and keep looking. For someone who's a newbie, I am yet to muster courage to buy sight unseen (not that I could do better by seeing/driving the car as compared to a professional PPI).

Any thoughts on this one?

Cars for Sale: 2006 Porsche Cayman S in Plano, TX 75093: Coupe Details - 355751439 - AutoTrader.com

BruceH 10-31-2013 03:28 PM

Keep in mind, you don't have to buy sight unseen. I put a refundable deposit down on mine before I traveled to Atlanta.

As far as your link goes, besides it having one of those top thingies:eek:, it looks pretty good! Go take a look, pictures are only so good. I sent a friend to look at a Carrera over at Park Place when he was looking for a 911. It wasn't obvious until he got there that there were more than a few door dings and some obvious paint work. Of course, a PPI would be a must. Price seems reasonable.

Gave the Cayman a miss - Too much money for an '07. I found this and have dropped a deposit while I ponder over this:

2010 Porsche Boxster GPS NAVIGATION W/BOSE SOUND in Plano TX from European Motors Inc

Any thoughts or advise on the features/price?

TeamOxford 11-15-2013 12:23 PM

So, I guess not being an "S" is not a deal-killer?

The asking price is right for the year, mileage and coming from a dealer. Maybe you could shave $2K - $3K in negotiation.

It looks like you would be purchasing an essentially new car.........just 4 years old. :) Pics show it to be mint, and the mileage is very low.

The original owner took a big hit on the car; that alone makes it an appealing deal. With this car, you can skip over all the IMS bearing threads on this forum, as this model doesn't have a sealed bearing. :D

Still get a PPI, though.

TO

BruceH 11-15-2013 02:22 PM

I agree with TO, about right on the price, maybe 2k high. But I don't think you can go wrong.

sudheendrar 11-18-2013 09:35 AM

All,

Thanks for the advice!

Looks like the dealer went ahead and sent it off to a Dealer Auction - The sales guy was apologetic but said they can sell with less hassles at an Auction and maybe make some extra cash !What a bummer :(

I guess that beauty was not meant to be for me!

Anyways, will keep looking.

craigslist was where I sold mine. Sold in 3 hours from posting to a buyer from 1000+ miles away who just happened to be 50 miles away. I live an a small town of 10k people and posted it in the big city. Had 3 others begging for a chance at it.
