Track Rotors for an S

Circuit of Americas is my home track. Can be hard on rotors.

Drive to the track car but 80% track car. Full weight Boxster S.

Running PFC 8's or 11's (don't remember which).

Was getting strong rotor shimmy going into 12. (120+ down to 40ish)

Time to replace original OEMs. What are folks using for new track rotors.

thanks,

Mike

I use Meyle drilled rotors on my 04 S
On ebay they run $70 - $90 a pair

Sounds like you may have pad deposits on the rotors
Try re-bedding them

I switched to the Sebro slotted rotors that Pelican Parts sells, and have had excellent performance and rotor life using Pagid RS-14 pads. Heck, the pads are so expensive compared to the rotors, I have more concerns with pad life than rotor life anyway.

I also had good performance from the OEM rotors, but they were only lasting me about 4 events due to cracks starting to run hole to hole on the drilled rotors.

If you changed brake pad material recently that could have caused your brake vibration problem. I have experienced severe brake judder when switching from one pad material to another if the new pad material is not compatible with the old pad material that is still embedded in the rotor on a microscopic level.

Several options...

...what they said above works.

Giro Rotors.

Brembo "Big Brake Kit".

Most important is the cooling of the brake system. ;)

I'm going to try the sebro slotted rotors next, but I just put a new set on (Bosch and ATE OEM style) so it may be a while.

That's why you need to bed new pads. It cleans off the old crap and replaces it with new

Yeah - when you bed new pads onto old rotors, if the old rotors had been used with a non compatible pad compound, then there can be very severe brake judder for several laps before the old pad material is finally worn off, then all is generally good.

In my experience the Pagid materials are compatible with the Textar OEM materials, so you can bed new race pads onto old rotors that have been used on the street with the OEM pads. Some combinations like this are not so friendly.

Some folks claim that cleaning old rotors with ammonia Windex before using an incompatible material will solve this problem, but I have never tried it.

I have - don't waste your time. :)

These pads have about 500 COTA Laps on them -- so its not a bedding issue :-)

If you want OEM style drilled rotors, I think.the Meyle would be my first choice (I wasn't aware of them when I bought mine a while back). For slotted, Sebro slotted. And I think C-Quence (the vendor thstone gets his rotors from may make a directional vaned but plain face rotor as well)

I think 500 COTA laps and you have removed any previous traces... ;)

I would be happy to help you with new rotors for your track car. I sell the Sebro slotted rotors as well, but to be honest with you the best price I have found on the market is through Pelican Parts, especially if you can talk them into free shipping.

They list them at $117.25 each. The part numbers you will need are 99635140501 and 99635140601

I would be slightly higher in price and I would not be able offer free shipping, but if for some reason you have a problem grabbing them, let me know. They are currently in stock.

I hope that the part numbers are at least helpful. Let me know if I can be of help with anything else. Brake Rotors are crazy competitive though so not my best offering in the market unfortunately.

Erik Johnson

Free shipping and lifetime replacement. Thats right, wear them out, send them back, and they'll send you a new pair for free.

Went with the Meyle drilled rotors. Put on Cool Carbon pads. Disintegrated the front pads in less than 3 track days at CoTA -- did an emergency swap to street pads for the rest of this weekend
but I will be going back to something other than Cool Carbons.

I thought I had been using them -- but I see above -- maybe it was PFCs -- I will be going back to them or similar. No more Cool Carbons for me.

I run Pagid Yellow front, Black rear on drilled OEM supplier rotors - can't remember if they were Sebro or not. Ran blacks in front previously - but got a set of barely used yellows and threw those on. I've been happy with them overall, never an issue on track.

Just back from the track with lots of vibration from my Meyles. Turning the disk by hand, I felt resistance from the pads on one part of the rotation. Checked it with my vernier caliper ( don't have a micrometer), I read a difference in thickness on opposite sides of the disk. I'll check this out further tomorrow. Many have given good comments to this rotor, and the price is sure right! Is there really a substantial difference in rotors? There certainly is a big difference in price!
