wasser gruppe

hey, those air-cooled, long-hooded track rats got the r-gruppe, but what do we have?

what about outlawed, track-whored boxsters?

wasser-gruppe?

boxer-gruppe?

friseur-gruppe?

perhaps agree on a name, get some decals made up, and issue decals upon successful application (post to this thread w/ car resume and photos - approved on consensus basis)?

The Radium King 12-01-2016 07:04 AM

bahn-gruppe?

schlucht schnitzer-gruppe?

The Radium King 12-01-2016 07:09 AM

mittel-gruppe?

JFP in PA 12-01-2016 07:56 AM

c'mon, it's december 1st. open up your advent calendar, have a tasty treat, and cheer up. perhaps start your own; the Mürrischer Mechaniker-Gruppe, or the Besserwisser-Gruppe.

Gruppe Sechs

Smallblock454 12-01-2016 09:40 AM

Very funny. :D :D :D

Do you guys be aware that some of your ideas could have also a different meaning in german, because of very bad translation or simply a different context meaning? :D :D :D

Regards, Markus

The Radium King 12-01-2016 09:55 AM

hah! google translate is hit-and-miss at best. i was hoping that an actual master of the language would chime in and help us avoid a kennedy/jelly donut incident ("i am a berliner!").

Smallblock454 12-01-2016 02:29 PM

OK, let's take a closer look. :D

wasser-gruppe: (Wassergruppe)
Group of guys drinking mineral water, or doing medical Kneipp applications.
Maybe you've meant water-cooled which would be more something like "Die Wassergekühlten". But this would include all water cooled cars.

boxer-gruppe: (Boxergruppe)
Well, this could also be a group of boxers in the meaning of boxing as a sport.
Also this could be a group of Boxer dogs. Boxer is a dog breed.
MOre unique qould be something like Boxstergruppe, which means group of Boxster cars.

friseur-gruppe: :D (Friseurgruppe, or Frisögruppe)
OK, Friseur means hairdresser. But because it seems that male gay people like to work in the profession of a hairdresser, a hair dresser's car would be a car for gay guys in german. :D

bahn-gruppe: (Bahngruppe)
Ok, that is a group of people using the railway.:D Maybe you've thought more of something like track, which would be translated as Rennstrecke. So maybe Rennstreckengruppe.

schlucht schnitzer-gruppe:
No idea what that could mean in english. A Schlucht is a canyon. A Schnitzer is a carver.

mittel-gruppe:
That would mean the group in the middle. Or the group that is mediocre. So i think what was meant here was mid engine group, which would be translated as Mittelmotorgruppe.

non-gruppe:
Well, nothing to translate here. ;)

gruppe 6
Well it depends on how you write it.
Gruppe 6 = group number six
But if you write Gruppensex, it has a complete different meaning (group sex). Which maybe could be very misleading in combination with friseur-gruppe. :D ;)

Regards, Markus

The Radium King 12-01-2016 03:02 PM

thanks man, mineral water drinker i am not. i like the gruppe sechs name too (and i didn't even know sechs was 6 in german!). i'll hold off for (hopefully) more input, but will see what i can work up for possible decals. i was thinking something similar to this:

http://cdn3.pelicanparts.com/catalog.../misc/rg36.jpg

but with the name across the bottom and modified to look a little more water-cooled. you could get a decal w your displacement on it.

the other thing i was thinking was in the style of the mobil 1 pegasus:

http://d39a3h63xew422.cloudfront.net...934470707.jpeg

but use the horse from the porsche crest instead:

http://cirpca.org/portals/6/MiscImag...sche_Crest.jpg

and add the name across the bottom. either way you get a nod to vintage racing but add a new twist.

steved0x 12-01-2016 05:45 PM

Whatever it turns out to be, I'll take 2, one for the car and one for the trailer. Maybe 3, including one for my helmet ;)

BRAN 12-12-2016 08:55 AM

Gruppe 986...

Gruppe 689

or drop the 6 and the 9

Gruppe 8 :D

where the 8 looks like a B (both stand for Boxster)

ergo: Gruppe B ;)

Smallblock454 12-12-2016 10:33 AM

But is a 986 really a Gruppe-B-Monster? :D ;)

Funny, this one's been cycling through my head for a while, too.
How about R-Gruppe 2K? (new millennium)

"Canyon carving" in American English means to go for a joy ride in the hills.

Very popular expression with motorcyclists too.

karate chop Gruppe?

IMS Gruppe?

TT Gruppe (two trunks)?

fried egg Gruppe?

MM Gruppe (Mittel Motor)?

PS Gruppe (Porsche savior) or just PR Gruppe (PORSCHE RETTER)

While living in Germany I lived in Eltville am Rhein. My phone number was 06123-61666. It was fun telling Americans my number in German was null sechs eins zwei drei, sechs eins sechs sechs sechs.

I'm fine with that.
Toyota is my first love.

But I hear ya. lol
Perhaps not the best option.

BoxKuhl Groupe? #BKG

The Radium King 12-17-2016 02:13 PM

hmmm, i'd kinda filed away this thread as it didn't look like there was a lot of interest. seems a few more folks into it now, which is cool.

which way to go? the 86 is a little toyota-ish, allthough the 86 is a track fixture up where i live and does have a boxer engine. perhaps they can be gruppe members with a side of rice instead of spaetzle.

i liked gruppe sechs, but after a bit of searching i found out that it is the name of a security company in the grand theft auto video game. not a deal breaker though.

i don't mind mettelmotor gruppe, but doesn't exactly roll of the tongue. m gruppe is a bit bimmerish.

8 gruppe is ok too - we could hang out with our other '8' cousins - the 987s, caymans, 981s, even the 718s (we'll let them pay for things because they have too much money). the 968 guys can carry our stuff and the 928 guys will probably be too busy watching miami vice an baywatch reruns to hang out.

They can be the 8-Ballers group.

Get it? Get it?
Because Narcos.

perfection. i was going to go there, but could have never hit it like that. kudos.

steved0x 12-17-2016 07:43 PM

What about mmgruppe, mm for mettemotor, with 2 "m"s it wouldn't be bimmer-ish?

How about Eier Gruppe?

Because eier means eggs, like our headlights.

The Radium King 12-18-2016 11:40 AM

i just googled 'meat motor' - got lots of pics of motorised meat grinders. sorry about the typo - intention was mittelmotor. could perhaps run with just that and leave the 'gruppe' out - less deriviative that way.

the vintage engine displacement decal w 'mittel motor' underneath? for the rear window.

a deco wing or winged woman (nike - goddess of speed) with 'mittel motor' underneath? for helmets, fenders?

i'd thought about incorporating the stuttgart horse in some way, but without the entire crest giving it context it's got a real ferrari thing going on.

could also create a crest of our own - replace 'stuttgart' with 'mittelmotor' and replace the horse with a monkey rampant (balance, agility) ...

the deco winged woman (an old packard hood ornament in this case) ...

It looks like that's the monkey that gave AIDS to humans.
