16'' wheels for AX?
I am getting my car set up for Autocross next season and the next step is getting my wheels figured out. I have a 97' Boxster and currently it has the base 16'' wheels. I was thinking about running 16x7'' wheels and 245/45/16 tires all around.
What do you all think? I am not going to get detected race rubber next year so I am also going to be using it on the street. |
stock 16s are 6" front, 7" rear. I think shoehorning a set of 245s onto 7" wheels might be counter-productive but worth a try. An 8x16x4 would be ideal.

I bet that your right about sticking 245s on a 7'' wheel, probably not the best idea I have ever had. Might try 225s all around or just score some 17''s

I run 235s in the front and 255s in the rear with a lot of success. I've tried all sorts of sizes. If you're running outside of scca street class run rear wheels all around and run 245s (some people say 255s work as well)

I was hoping to run 4 16x7'' wheels. I think I could make the case that they are legal under the rules, but it would be a stretch.
The rules say: A. It is the same width as standard and as installed it does not have an offset more than ±1⁄4” (±6.35mm) from a standard wheel for the car. The resultant change in track dimensions is allowed. B. Wheel (rim) diameter may be increased or decreased 1” from the standard part. The 17'' front is 7'' wide, so -1'' in diameter and still the same width as stock... |
