I am starting to build my track day kit and I thought it would be helpful to see what other people are taking to the track. I am hoping to get most of what I need into a single large Rubbermaid that I can throw in the car and go.

Here is my list so far



Safety Gear: long sleeve fire resistant clothes. Bell BR1-fa, Sparco, gloves

Tools: 18v impact and sockets for wheels & brakes

Parts: track pads front and rear, brake fluid

Food: ??

Beverage: 2.5 gallon arrowhead water

Shelter: EZ up

Lucky Charm: right foot

Ego left at home- check

compressor and pressure gauge to get tires in right spot
tow hooks front and back (tool to remove rear licence plate)
torque wrench, extension and socket to ensure proper wheel torque
CG locks if no harness
logbook, pencil
power bleeder and brake fluid if going hard
durametric
oil

Track Checklist
Note: Many of these things don't apply to a person in a street car, so don't worry about it if you don't have a neck brace, for instance.
Required
Helmet! - a very bad (and easy) thing to forget
Tech form - Important
Car Numbers – required on both sides of the car and rear, a minimum of eight inches high
Tow hook installed or tow point established
Cotton or Nomex clothing ONLY. No leather or synthetics allowed.

Highly Recommended (not strictly required)
Driving Suit or long sleeve cotton shirt and cotton pants
Fire Extinguisher
Extra Brake pads
Brake fluid
Drinking Water (1/2 gal per day)
Engine Oil - bring a quart or two, just in case
Hat - for Sun
Sunglasses
Sun Screen
Folding chair

EZ-UP Canopy - Ideally there would be one for every 4 cars or so, because the sun can be brutal. Hopefully everyone who has one will bring one (and it makes you very popular too).
Windex - You will kill many bugs on your way to the track.

I find it helpful to have a track map - didn't see it in the very complete lists above.

Also, as I pull out of the driveway I think of the bare minimum I MUST have:
helmet, drivers license/wallet, tech form (and key to car if trailering)

This is a handy thread, and as good as any for asking the question i can't find in any other threads.

Do y'all have a favorite jack to take to the racetrack for swapping wheels, etc?

I have a great floor Jack that I've been using in the garage for over 20 years.... but it's like 100lbs.... and I'm old.

It seems some of these aluminum low-boy jacks should be good for track duty? But prices range fron about $60 to about $600.

Any first hand experience y'all can share?

I see a lot of the low profile Harbor Freight jacks at the track, even among people with expensive cars and tow vehicles. I haven't seen one fail yet.

I am a drive my car to and from the track person. I keep a cheap rain poncho and a few new large heavy duty black garbage bags in my track bag to put my floormats and all the crap that comes out of my car into in case of rain. Also a new roll of paper towels to go with the window cleaner and for checking my oil.

I have a cheapo Hazard Fraught aluminum racing jack that I've had for close to twenty years, and although it is a low-quality piece, it still works just fine.

Thanks RB and PauleE. I've heard others say the same about the HF unit. and at 35lbs, it's pretty attractive. But there are a couple reports of people saying they buckle and cars fall off of them.....

I'll probably go that direction.

Most everything I recommend has already been said, but I'll throw in some of the smaller things that make the day better.

1) Duck Tape, at least one whole roll of good stuff.
2) Zip ties. A lot of zip ties.
3) Painter's blue tape (What I use for numbers occasionally, or if someone else needs them.)
4) Snacks that won't melt in the sun/heat. Even if it's not hot outside.
5) One of those cheap 30-piece tool sets, or a small bag with some of the common sizes of wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers and at least one solid hammer.
6) CHARGERS FOR EVERY ELECTRONIC DEVICE YOU TAKE. I can't say how many track days had a not insignificant amount of inconvenience added due to one of our cameras/phones dying.
7) Extra SIM cards for your cameras, if applicable.
8) I know it's a bit old-school, but chalk. I chalk my tires so see how the tires are doing.
9) Tire pressure gauge.
10) A friend.
