Toyo RA-1 air pressure
I am getting a set of Toyo RA-1 and will be getting them shaved. I have never ran them before and will be running them on 17x7 and 17x 8.5. Any help with air pressure? Bill, Pgh, PA

With the RA-1's, most drivers aim for 36 -38psi hot. Where you start will depend on local temps, track, driving style, etc.

I am unusual in that I aim a little lower. 34-5 is my sweet spot running a square 8.5 set up. My argument is that they are, drivable at 32, 95% good at 34, 100% good if circumstances force them a little higher, but difficult when they get over 40. If I aim for 38 then the moment I start straining to find that little extra (like trying to find a way past an equal car) I will push myself into the over 40s. Counter argument is that we should always be looking for that little extra and so we should always be in the ideal zone. That, however, is not how I roll.
If your use is for DE only then 37/38 is fine. |
Been racing on RA-1's for 3.5 years and after some experimentation found 39-40 to be best...
From Toyos website: Toyo Tires recommends the following general set up guidelines for the Proxes RA1: Operating Temperature: 160°F to 220°F Hot Inflation Pressures: High 30s to Low 40s (psi) Camber: -2.5° to -5.0° Caster: As much positive as possible |
