Racing Shift Mount from Hargett

If you are on Facebook, then there is a write up - here

And if you are not, then here is a summary :)

I appreciate that this is not to everyone's taste, but it is perfect for me...

I have had the Hargett Pro shifter in my 911 for years and really like it. So after some discussions with Mark at Hargett we set about designing something that would locate the sifter in the Boxster racing car a bit more like the Pro shifter in my 911.

And this is the end result from several discussions and some early prototype work.

One of the key design constraints that I gave to Mark when we started to wok on this was that it had to be light and at the same time not flex during shifting in a race - and initial impressions is that he has managed to do this. I still have to test it in anger during a race, but I feel confidant it will be perfect.

Appreciate that it ads a small amount of weight to the car, when I am trying to reduce weight at every opportunity, but here I feel that the better shifting feel is preferable over the small additional weight - but like I said at the start, we all have our opinions and requirements in our racing cars, this is one of mine :)

Mark has decided to release the mount as a product and will be putting it up on the Hargett web site soon. He is even talking about making an adjustable version of the mount.

Very cool!

I'm a big fan of raising the shifter, but it needs to be $50 :) We just use screw on standoffs for $100 or so.

His setup mimics the mount for the Carrera GT shifter :)

I am not 100% sure on what price Mark is planning to put this mount out at - but I think he is thinking in the same price point as you are indicating Brad (Under $100). But I will know more once he has listed it on his site...

Knock down all but 2 of those studs in front of the shifter. That way if you need to mount something, you can use the two remaining studs. No need for all of them!!

I want a RHD dash badly.. :)

Why should I cut down the studs? Got any picture to show what you are talking about?

I can maybe help you with a RHD dash...

I know I should not answer a question with a question.... BUT...

You want to know how I managed to get a Boxster down to 1,980lbs?

I live by this: "Does it weigh more than zero?" (the studs weigh more than zero)... get rid of them!! If you are serious about the diet.. remove every other bolt holding down the front fenders :)

Got you - the studs will go.

Both the front and rear bumpers are attached with the bolts only - I can remove the rear bumper in under 2 min :D

Brad Roberts 02-09-2012 10:19 PM

It's the sum of all parts/pieces removed :)

B

Yes, that it is.

Just a shame that the "extra" 10kg stuck on me is the hardest to remove in time for the start of the 2012 season

Brad Roberts 02-09-2012 10:25 PM

I tell people to "cut their head off"

I was offered a seat in a race car this year... if I'd drop 25lbs and *fit* in the little guy seat :)

I've lost 5lbs :)

B

Kroggers 02-09-2012 10:28 PM

So only 20lbs remaining :D

Brad Roberts 02-09-2012 10:34 PM

and trust me.. sometimes.. cutting my head off might be the better solution!!! LOL

Interesting to see how many common "friends of friends" we have - my friend has a friend who... :D

Brad Roberts 02-09-2012 11:28 PM

I cheated. I ran a large web forum for 8+ years before I sold it. Lots of friends worldwide :) (and probably about the same number of enemies!!)

If you need any help I have a machete and am happy to volunteer

Cool. But it demonstrates that we move in the same circles...

See? Send a guy $200 you owe him, deliver and install an engine for him (for gas money) and he is first in line with the machete!

and he has experience with people "cutting" on him, so I would imagine he could perform a clean cut on someone else :)

Kroggers 02-10-2012 09:20 PM

Could make it hard to see the apex if your head is not with you in the car :D

Jittsl 02-11-2012 05:00 PM

What do you think I spent the $200 on.

I know, but not sure many are willing to do that though!

I wrote Hargett a couple years ago and he indicated he would start working on something when he had time. Glad he came up with something!

Brad Roberts 02-20-2012 03:54 PM

Ha ha.. yes you do know.. and you also know we had another 20-30lbs that could still come out!!

I have one more in me. Found a BLACK donor for 3k. Needs an engine (it'll get a 2.7) Bare tub build. Already have a wiring harness paired down for it!!
